Easy Jute Placemats
Now that I have a bigger outdoor table, I am ready to entertain on the back patio. I have been looking for some jute placemats for a while now and thanks to a random trip to the craft store, was able to make some easy jute placemats for a fraction of the cost if I bought them retail.
These jute placemats are so simple to make and take no time at all. If you can twirl jute in a circle and navigate a hot glue gun around some old placemats, you can make these easy jute placemats.
How to make Easy Jute Placemats
You need a few things for this project
- Old or inexpensive placemats
- Craft Jute rope. Make sure it’s craft jute rope. The rope will be softer and easier to work with. Each roll is 15 feet. I used about 17 for these placemats.
- Hot glue gun
- Heavy-duty scissors
Easy Jute Placemat Tutorial
- Twist the jute rope in the center of the placemat creating a circle. Glue it down.
- Continue to make a circle around the entire placemat, using your glue to secure along the way.
- Snip away any part of the placemat that is not covered by rope. Cut any excess rope.
Additional helpful tips:
- Make sure your jute is wound tight. Try not to leave any gaps in your circle.
- Don’t apply too much glue….more to pick off when you are done.
- The desired size of the placemat is up to you and the base you are using. The old place mats that I used are fairly large, so I just cut off the excess when I was done.
