Tea Time at Duke Manor Farm
Baby it’s cold out, which can only mean that it’s perfect time for tea time at Duke Manor Farm.
How are you this week and how is the New Year treating you so far? Other then almost sending my kids back to school one day early (thank goodness for friends who told me they had one more day of vacation…opps) things are pretty darn good here. We had a lovely Christmas with my mom here for a few weeks, followed by a relatively low key New Year with some friends visiting from Indiana. Get caught up on that visit here.
Isn’t this the cutest mug? Courtesy of a recent trip to Joann Fabrics. You know….. when you are standing in line ready to check out, 12 people are in front of you, your arms already full cause you just went in for that one thing and didn’t grab a cart, and you are just standing there and having a moment, thinking how perfect the mugs will be in the winter time. And you say yourself ‘Heck, what’s one more thing in these arms of mine. In fact go ahead and grab two’.
Speaking of cold, we finally got some chilly weather in North East Georgia. Funny, for weeks people were fussing that it was so warm and that it didn’t seem all ‘Christmas-ish’ running around in shorts and sipping Iced Tea. Now they are crying, cause it’s cold and they can’t get enough hot cocoa to warm them up. People are funny like that. I try not to complain about the weather, especially since there is absolutely zilch that I can do about it, and as long as the sun is out I don’t really care how cold it gets.
Where do fall on the weather scale. Do you prefer hot or cold?
Set any new goals or resolutions for the New Year? I am not a big resolution fan…at all. For so long, year after year, I would have this long list of stuff….and then would just be let down for a huge disappointment especially when it was only 48 hours into the new year and I was already blowing the healthy eating one. Talk about a major let down. And so the rest of the year I felt like……I should eat more chocolate. Ha. So now, I just continue on my merry little way trying to meet the goals that I set anytime of the year….. when I need to and without major disappointment.
I buy these calendars every year from Target. No resolutions….. but I am very organized.
Completely off topic of goals, resolutions or chocolate, but did you catch the Bachelor the other night? If so, it seems like Ben is a really great guy, right? So, I am just wondering why he needs to make out with 26 women on national tv in order to find a wife? Hmmm. Seriously considering that after 14 years of being a loyal to the bachelor nation, I may just find something a bit more entertaining to watch after this season.
We are getting ready to tee off some long overdue projects around Duke Manor Farm, which include a new chicken coop, guest house renovations to the outside patio, the already started but never finished backyard Koi pond and an outdoor kitchen. I will share more specifics later this month. I posted my best room makeovers for 2015 this week here if you missed that.
Looking for a way to create some winter decor in your home this season? Head to your closet and pull out your favorite winter scarf , throw it on the table along with some pine cones in your favorite white bowl. The Perfect look for those long winter days ….along with a cup of cocoa or hot tea.
Have a great weekend!
PS- the fabulous winter scarf is from J.Crew, the white bowl from TJ Maxx, pine cones from the yard.
grateful
for winter and extra snuggles from the kiddos
The mug is adorable! It’s finally cold here in NJ and I am fine with it. My kids want snow so bad and we have only had a flurry or two so far. In past years we have had snow as early as October so they are wondering what’s going on! We had such a warm December – some days in the 60s and almost 70! Crazy. As soon as it got cold though, most people complained. I guess it happens everywhere! Have a great day!

I just found you on Facebook. Love your cup and scarf. I have a plaid scarf and pedestal dish with pinecones now too. Ha. I want to go get a couple of cups . Hope they still have. Where did you find your scarf ?
Glad you found duke manor farm! I got the scarf at j crew.
I’m with you on resolutions, but I’m not organized like you.
Happy new year bliss
Hey Laura,
I am also not a fan of resolutions. This year I am trying ‘My one word’. My word for this year is ‘Moments’. If you’re not familiar with Mike Ashcraft’s book/website check it out. Blessings in 2016.

I look so forward to your blog posts. Your home is beautiful and I love your style. Love the mug! My bed is very similar to yours. Like you, my bedroom is not designer, but we love it’s comfort. As Goldilocks said, “It’s just right.” I am not a huge fan of long term cold weather, but I am grateful to live in a place where there are seasonal changes. My son is a meteorologist so we are avid weather watchers but not complainers because it always changes! 😉 i don’t know if Savannah is your TV viewing area, but if so, you can watch a really good weatherman tell you what your day’s weather will be like! If you are like me, cold weather just gives me an excuse to grab a blanket and a good book, or watch a favorite movie.
Love the plaid scarf/table runner and the mugs! My family had a donkey when I was growing up. It kept “escaping from his own field” so his owner gave him to us. My sister took care of “Hot Shot” and he certainly was easy to care for – you could sit on his back and he’d never move one foot!” Other than that, he was good-natured. Good experiences for us kids.
Happy New Year to you and yours!
YES, so glad it’s finally a little chilly here! I do usually set a few goals, but they’re rarely anything drastic. So far I haven’t given it much thought though– might want to get on that! Have a great weekend!

You found yourself some pretty mugs there! And in the trendy plaid too. I don’t do resolutions. This year I didn’t even choose a “word.” I am happy enough that I don’t feel a need for either at this point. It snowed here today. Didn’t stick, but was sure pretty as I was driving to see my grandson this morning. I prefer cold. I just detest heat. But if you’ve hit/been through menopause, heat becomes a sort of enemy!
