Keep Warm and Drink Cocoa Printable
I will never forget the first Christmas that I spent away from my family with my then boyfriend, who would later become my husband, and his family in Lafayette, Louisiana. And as I was missing my family and our own family traditions, I was creating new ones as the entire gang of them , the siblings, spouses and 20 kids, made sure to make me feel welcomed and loved while we laughed hearing family stories, played games and….drank cocoa.
Cocoa was the coffee and hot tea replacement for his family. Cup after cup, story after story, game after game from morning to night. And it wasn’t just the ‘add water to the packet’ kind that I was use to. It was the recipe that his mother had been making since they were all children….all 6 of them.
So ever since that Christmas when I drink a cup of cocoa, it’s more then just getting warm and inhaling a few extra calories from the marshmallows and whip cream. It’s remembering a special time when a family that I did know, treated me like I Â was one of there own…… on that very first Christmas I spent with them.Â
At that the same time I was missing my family, I was forming a relationship with the largest number of cocoa drinkers I had ever met…. who would someday be my own family.

Cute idea! Your printable would look great in a cocoa bar. I think I need to set one up for the holidays!
Thanks Jennifer. I am the one now turning my gang into major cocoa drinkers!
Loved your story and love the printable!
Love my cocoa but I sure do love my man…and his family.
Thanks for sharing the printable! I loved reading the story about drinking hot cocoa with your husband's family. My MIL used to make the best cocoa too. She would put millk on the stove and heat it up and then use the Hershey's cocoa in it. It was so yummy! Now, I buy the packets of cocoa but use milk with it. I buy the Starbucks brand. It's really good too. Ghirardelli makes good cocoa as well.
Hey Kelly. His mama used instant milk in her recipe. I may post it again cause it is sooo good.
Great story, I enjoyed it very much. My mom used to make hot cocoa from scratch. Was the best.

This year I am going to whip up a big batch of her powder and forgo the packets! 🙂
So sweet (literally). We are def. on the same wave-length. Your hot chocolate looks amazing!
So glad that this was a Louisiana memory! Thanks for the printable!
So cute!
Love this story, Laura. I remember crying my first Christmas away from my family, but so true that it all forms the new traditions you make as your own little family. Great printable too!
I love this. Thanks for the printable. Who doesn't love cocoa? And thanks for sharing your story. I think my mom and your in-laws must be related.
What sweet memories, Laura! In more ways than one… 😉
