Weekend Hangout at Duke Manor Farm Vol 31
Baby it’s hot outside, kids are back to school and I have started a few new projects that I am sharing in this edition of the weekend hangout at Duke Manor Farm.
Weekend Hangout at Duke Manor Farm
Baby it’s Hot Outside
August is not exactly my favorite month of year primarily because it’s just so hot. I can’t even tell you that last time we enjoyed any time on the front porch… which makes me sad. Luckily, my Kimberly Queen ferns and the other shade loving plants on the porch are doing well with regular watering. See my tips here on keeping the ferns looking good all throughout the summer and fall months.
In the Garden
This years garden was not the best. Between the deer breaching the fence and the intense heat, things just didn’t do as well as in years past. We did see an abundance of peppers and tomato’s. I was able to cook up a favorite dish a few times this summer using the bell peppers and of course who doesn’t love tomato and mayo sandwiches. If you are southern you totally get me.
All about the Family
As of August 1st, not only do I have a pair of Juniors, I also have two more licensed drivers. Can we not talk about how expensive insurance is for teen drivers!! My oldest begins his first semester in college this week so that’s exciting. I told my hubby that I feel like my kids broke up with me since my shuttling services are no longer needed, although I am trying to put that extra time into good use around the house, when I am not watching the twins on Life 360.
Projects around the house
Not the most exciting projects in the world but definitely much needed. My garage has been a complete eyesore for some time now so it is getting a refresh. I am going to paint the walls, get a new door into our mudroom area, and paint the floors. The last time I did anything to the garage was here and it’s time. The other August project is replacing and painting the back deck off of the family room, it was equally gross. I had my hubby create a post and rail design from my brain and he delivered. I will start to paint it this week if the weather gets below 150 degrees.
A project that we actually did finish last month was creating a privacy fence around the side of our shop. I was not a big fan of seeing all the gas cans, cement mixer and other misc items on the side of the shop. I am weird that way. Besides it’s the perfect place to conceal the pallet of mulch that I ordered this summer, but it’s been too hot to put out.
I’ll share all the fun details of these projects in future blog posts. Until then don’t forget to follow me here to get all the real time updates.
