Weekend Hangout at Duke Manor Farm #11
Hope you are enjoying the weekend. I am a bit late with this weekend’s hangout since seeing the weekend is just about over. Two days go by way too fast, don’t you think?
We haven’t really done much this weekend except for a few small projects around the house and just chilling out. On Saturday the weather was absolutely gorgeous. The boys went fishing, my oldest was at work, and Lily and I just sat out back reading and playing with the dogs.
I’m old school and like to have an actual magazine in my hands, so I finally had time to catch up on a few that have been stacked up for a while now. How about you, digital reader or traditional book/magazine in hand?
Fall Decorating
Since it’s officially the fall season, you now can go nuts loading up on pumpkins, colorful mums and drink copious amounts of pumpkin lattes. I find that as a blogger/influencer we start a tad bit earlier sharing seasonal stuff than most people (although I start later than most) but I have always subscribed to the ‘Do whatever makes you happy…whenever” theory.
Other than picking up some mums any fall decorating I am doing is done. Lucky for me, I loved last year’s look so much on the porch that it’s on repeat again this year. Inside, I put out a few fall pieces like some amber-colored glass, swapped out some pillows and added some of my fall artwork. It’s just enough to give a nod to my favorite season of the year.
Over the years I have been more intentional about the items that I hold on to and want to bring out each season. I find that it’s fun to mix and match and use what I have. I did make a new fall wreath last weekend for the garage.
Latest Projects
Growing oak trees
I am no stranger to propagating plant clippings but I have never tried growing my own oak trees. It seems like I probably did this back in grade school so I am excited to give tree growing another try. A couple of days ago I collected a bunch of oak seeds. I placed them in some water to keep them hydrated. This week I will plant them in some soil. I will let you know how it goes. Does anybody want an oak tree?
Shining up my hardwood floors
Since I like clean, shiny floors I have been going room by room and giving my floors a good cleaning with Murphys Oil. I love that stuff. I finish up the floors by applying a couple of coats of Rejuvenate. Rejuvenate has been a godsend on my 20 ish-year-old hardwood floors. Although the process is so insanely easy, I have all the details here.
What I bought lately
Lily’s latest obsession are these protein bars. They actually taste better than most bars I have tasted.
We outfitted our home gym with these dumbbells
I must be terribly rough on my iPhone, because I am constantly replacing the lens protector. I use my phone as my camera exclusively now and luckily these are not expensive.
Jacob got some new items for his boat like this network cable, fold up trailer jack, Mercruiser, Mercruiser plastic engine cover, boat air intake,RAM Mounts Garmin, hull mounting block.
I’ll try anything for a good night’s sleep. My friend told me these really help her. I am only 30 days in and I can honestly say I am not waking up multiple times a night like I used to.
