Weekend Hangout at Duke Manor Farm #9
Weekend hangout at Duke Manor Farm including celebrating the twins, my next kitchen project, and what we have been up to this week.
Happy weekend friends! Heading into the weekend feeling all kinds of feels. Kids started school yesterday. The twins started high school and my oldest is a junior. Boy, people aren’t kidding when they say how quickly these days would move past us. Speaking of moving fast, we are celebrating the twin’s 14th birthday this weekend.
Why is it I always see them like this…..
What I did this week
Getting ready for school
Besides getting the kids ready for school, we were trying to enjoy every bit of summer break that we had left. I did manage to share these posts on the blog in case you missed them:
Easy Strawberry salad with walnuts
Back to school backpacks for any budget
Picked peaches
I mentioned that my peaches are going crazy. Last week we canned peaches for the first time and this week we actually made some peach cobbler with them. I will put a post together for this week and share the easy cobbler recipe that I use every time.
Got peaches…check out this post on how to easily peel them.
Next kitchen project
It’s been a few years since I painted my kitchen island Iron Ore. Well sadly it’s got a few knicks from my very active family that need some touching up, and instead of repainting in the same color, I am almost certain I am going to use a color called Thunderous from SW.
I bought a sample of it a few months ago and put it on this side of the island. I love that the color reads both gray and green depending on the lighting. Since I am not replacing my countertops anytime soon, I like how the green tones work with the brown in the granite.
I also used Thunderous on the walls in my husbands office earlier this year. Reveal coming soon.
Just for the fun of it how’s this for a before and after!
You can see the full reveal of my hardwood floors in the gameroom here.
What I am watching/reading
I watched Victoria and Abdul this week. Good movie about Queen Victoria’s unusually close friendship with her Indian servant that spanned 14 years.
Still reading (believe it or not) We Were Liars.
Made it to season 9 of Call the Midwife on netflix. I really have enjoyed this series.
I binged season 4 of Virgin River. I really love Virgin River but honestly didn’t love this season as much as the others. It’s super slow although the surprise ending makes up for it…kinda.
I bought these 30 lbs, 35 lbs, and 40 lb weights, for our new workout space.
Posts worth checking out this weekend
You should see the before and after of this kitchen. Just beautiful!
What a great transformation of an end table.
I still love this birdbath….. so do the birds, that I madeover years ago.
If you have Fall on the brain, check out some of these projects I did using spray paint.
Got a kid taking math in high school? You will need this…and they are not cheap!
Enjoy your weekend!

Loved catching up with you Laura! Your kids really have grown since I’ve been following you! I have to get back into the blogging world. I’ve always loved that you do your own painting. The color of your island is similar to the color I did with my cabinets at the lake a long time ago-a green/gray. I loved it until we got new cabinets.
I’ve heard of that book. I’ve been reading so much that all the books are a blur. If I ever get around to doing a post I’ll list them. TV is pretty much down to cooking shows for a quick fix. I never have time to stream anything but I did watch all the episodes of The First Ladies. I was fascinated with it.
I hope you are having a great summer!
Jane x
Hi Jane, thanks so much for stopping by to say hello! They were 3 when I started blogging. Oh boy….I feel old.:) I love watching cooking shows particularly the baking shows. I always feel so inspired. I did not see The First Ladies but may have to take a peek. I don’t watch much regular tv anymore and streaming has spoiled me with no commercials. Take Care Jane!
