Beach Inspired Bedroom Decorating Ideas
There’s no decor style I love more in my home during the hot lazy days of summer than a beach-inspired space, especially if the beach isn’t in the vacation plans this summer. What could be better than a laid-back area that speaks to your calm inner beach self without all the sand and UV rays?
I redid Lily’s bedroom with a fun and colorful beachy theme a few years ago. It was the hit of all makeovers that summer and still is. The room was designed to take her through her teenage years with small tweaks and changes along the way.
Beach Inspired Bedroom Decorating Ideas
If a beach-inspired vibe is what you are after for your space, try to incorporate some of these decorating ideas to evoke the feeling of the wind in your hair, waves crashing on the shore, and sand in your toes. Most of these decorating ideas would work in any part of your home.
Furniture
Luckily I held on to this wicker dresser that I got years ago at Pier One and painted it white. Look for wood, wicker, rattan, and other natural elements such as seagrass in your furniture pieces. To give the space an airy feeling I kept her existing white bed and repositioned it against the wall to open up the room.

Wall Color
When you think of the beach, there are many colors to consider. From calm and cool color palettes to bold pops of color, you can’t go wrong with your color choices in a beach-inspired space. I decided to go a bit bolder with my color choice and ultimately decided on Bali Bliss from SW.
Rugs
Typically I choose my rugs early on in a project and then pick the paint color, but for this project, it was the reverse, and boy did I get lucky. The wall color is a perfect complement to the blue/green colors in the rug. The colors in the rug allowed me to do a more soft color pallette on the floor while going bolder on the bedding and walls. Choose a rug that will give you color and texture options. This jute rug would have also been a great choice.
Hammock
Add fun seating in your beach-inspired bedroom like a hanging chair or hammock chair. I stayed away from more traditional seating options and went with a hammock chair that can easily be moved or relocated to another room down the road.

Beach accessories
To complete the beach-inspired space we filled it with a mix of treasures that we actually found on the shore along with some beach finds that we have picked up over the years. Lily is a big collector of shells so I was able to find this lamp that we can add the shells too. Find and fill your space with coastal and beach accessories that bring your memories back to life of your favorite beach trip.
Bedding
My original plan for the bedding in her room was something white…until I snagged this comforter set. Luck would strike again as it is the same blue/green as the walls. There are a ton of beach-inspired quilts and comforters in various shades and textures that will complete your beach vibe.
Natural elements
What beach-inspired space wouldn’t be complete without some natural elements incorporated into the design? In Lily’s space, I used painted wood planks on the walls along with a wood and rattan mirror. A wood bowl on her dresser has some ‘special’ sea treasures displayed.

Artwork
I found the perfect art piece for over the bed in soft pastel colors. Art doesn’t have to necessarily say ‘Beach’ to give off that cozy beach feeling. Consider options for your walls such as abstracts in complementary colors, wood shelves, mirrors, and personal photos.

Planked wall
Initially, I was going to leave the horizontal planks unpainted for a weathered look but after I installed the wood floor the different wood tones bugged me. I used fence boards with raw edges on the walls and was intentional with the gaps. They were painted with 2-3 coats of pure white paint in a semi-gloss finish.
I hope these beach-inspired decorating ideas help to inspire your own bedroom or just add a bit of beach style to any room in your home.
