5 ingredient breakfast casserole
Please note that the original recipe for this breakfast casserole was modified to reflect 5 ingredients not 4. I wasn’t counting the milk!
Looking for an easy and simple breakfast or brunch dish? You will want to try this 5 ingredient breakfast casserole. It’s a crowd favorite.
Happy New Year and welcome to the first Cozy Living post for 2021. Since creating a cozy home is all about surrounding yourself with people you love and what you love, I thought I would share a breakfast idea that has been on repeat throughout the holiday break. My family loves this 5 ingredient breakfast casserole. Such an easy and delicious casserole that you can whip up in a few steps for breakfast, brunch…or even dinner.
5 ingredient Breakfast Casserole
What you need:
1 can Pillsbury Crescent dough sheets or rolls. I use to make this casserole just with the Crescent rolls until I discovered the dough sheets. Have you used the sheets in any of your baking?
1 package ( 16 oz) of breakfast sausage ( hot or mild) browned, crumbled, and drained * You can also add any other favorite breakfast meat like ham or bacon. I have found that adding ham makes the casserole a bit more watery and not as firm.
2- 2 1/2 cups of shredded cheese ( we like to alternate between Monterey Jack, Cheddar, and Mexican blend) When we use the Mexican blend I serve the casserole with salsa.
4 eggs (slightly beaten)
3/4 cup of milk
Season to taste * not included as an ingredient
What you do:
- Preheat oven to 425
- Spread dough into ungreased 13×9 pan pressing on the bottom and 1/2 inch up the sides to form a crust
- Spread your cooked sausage over the crust. Make sure to drain it first.
- Sprinkle the cheese over the sausage
- Combine your slightly beaten eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour on top of the cheese
- Bake for 20-25 mins until golden brown
Serves 8-10
After you take the casserole out of the oven, let it cool for 5-10 mins before cutting and serving. If there are any leftovers, I just put them in the refrigerator for another day.
Use my homemade hot cocoa recipe to wash it all down. I hope my 5 ingredient breakfast casserole inspires you to get in the kitchen and make something yummy today. If casseroles aren’t your thing then you may want to check out my stuffed french toast or some of my other easy-to-make recipes here.

This looks so good and I’m going to make it for dinner one night this week. Happy New Year!!
This looks so good. I am definitely going to make this for sure.
Where was this casserole when I needed it on Christmas morning? LOL. I don’t eat meat but could make half of it with meat for hubby and the other half with veggies for me! I love that it has dough in it.
My family loves a breakfast bake! I’m allergic to eggs, so I can’t have them, but I’ll keep this one for them anyway! I didn’t even know they made Crescent roll sheets!!! I’m getting some soon, thanks!
Have you ever tried duck eggs? Most people who are allergic to chicken eggs have no problem with duck eggs.
This sounds like a fast and easy dinner meal too. I love breakfast food for dinner! And anything easy to make. One pot casseroles are my favorite.
Made tonight for dinner DELICIOUS I put sliced tomato on half of it.
glad you liked! happy new year!
Literally 6 ingredients in your 4 ingredient casserole
Was thinking same thing
I love egg dishes and can’t wait to try this! The Crescent sheets are awesome. Let’s try to be less critical of each other and just be happy in this new year. Here’s to 2021!!🎉😊
AMEN!!!!
The dough sheets were a happy accident since there were no crescent rolls in stock. Thinking about how else I will use them. Happy New Year!
Go back to school, then read it again….it says 5 ingredients!
1. Dough
2. Sausage
3. Cheese
4. Scrambled eggs (contains #5- milk)
Technically (5) ingredients…. Salt & Pepper???…. Ehhh!….. NO!!!.. doesn’t count!!!
However, I say it EATS like 4 ingredients!!!!
C’mon…. new year, new attitude!!!
Great (4) ingredient breakfast bake Laura!!!!….. Delish!!!
The Dough isn’t an “ingredient”, nor is S & P. Come on.
Thanks! edited to say 5. happy new year!
Do you know the nutrition count is on this? We are watching our sugar and salt intake.
Hi Brenda, sorry I do not know the nutrition count. I am generally not a food blogger, I just share dishes occasionally that I make for my family and that others may want to try. Happy New Year!
You can also use white or wheat bread instead of the dough…just line the pan with the bread shorten cook time just a bit…Bacon and sausage makes it even better…goes a long way when your short on breakfast food…Enjoy!!!
Hi kathy, great idea. when you do use bread, does the bread cook soft or firm?
I love a good breakfast casserole, especially in the cold winter months! Thanks for sharing this one with us!!
