Beach Themed Bedroom Makeover Progress
Beach Themed Bedroom Makeover Progress using wood, colorful paint, and natural elements
I’m making some progress on Lily’s beach themed bedroom makeover, although I would rather be at the beach! Things are going slow and steady, in between trying to enjoy summer break with the kids. Although I am taking my time with the project, the plan is to have this room finished by next month.
Lily had a lot of input into the design of her makeover. She wanted a beachy theme with color and wood. Although she loved the pink room that she has had for the last 10 years , it was time for a change.
My vision and design for the space
After the new floors got installed I painted the walls in a color called Bali Bliss from SW. Think of the water color in the south pacific sea. It was a perfect match for the new comforter that I got here. Since she requested wood walls we chose two walls to add wood boards to. My husband used rough hewn 1×6 boards and secured them with a nail gun.
Since the wood on the wall and on the floor were different tones I whitewashed the wood walls. I ended up using 1 to 1 ratio ( paint to water) and brushed it over the wood. I applied 3 coats until I get the color we wanted.
This is one coat.
As much as I like the one coat, I ended up applying two more coats of the paint and water mixture to tone down the yellow tone in the wood.
Lily’s previous dresser was bit heavy and tall for the look we were going for so we are swapping it out for a wicker dresser that I had in our guest house bedroom. I am actually in the process of giving it a fresh coat of white paint ( I am using pure white from Behr in semi-gloss finish). I got the dresser 20 years ago at Pier One and it is still in excellent condition. You can see the previous dresser that I picked up for next to nothing and transformed in her Pink room here.
Next up is some trim work, paint touch-ups, hanging curtains, and assembling the room just the way she wants it. I’ll be back in a few weeks to share the reveal.
What projects are you working on this summer?
