6 simple ways to create a Cozy home in a crazy time
Maintain a current or new routine
Your routine can either be the same one you had before we hunkered down at home or you can create a new one that makes for our new temporary normal. If you made your bed right after getting up before….make it the same time now. Brush your teeth and change out of your pj’s. Incorporate working out, reading or whatever makes you happy into your day. Creating a sense of balance in your day will help reduce any additional stress or anxiety that we may be feeling.
Get in the kitchen
I find myself cooking or baking more than ever these days, which is huge since I am not really a cook. Embrace this extra time to get better at something. Cooking, organization, cleaning the refrigerator, let’s get it done. Right now sitting down for a good meal or tasty treat is an important time for your family or household. Get out the cookbooks and experiment with new recipes. Should I even tell you that I have made 3 cakes in the last month using my favorite frosting recipe here. 🙂 Lately the kids will find recipes that they want to try so they get involved too. A couple of days ago Lily and I made these smore’s and chocolate chip treats.
Get outside
With temperatures rising and sun shining now is the time to get outside and enjoy the Spring weather. If it’s okay and safe for you to get outside, try to include it in your daily routine. If you are looking for something to do….check your landscape beds. With the arrival of spring temps, you probably also have some weeds to pull from your garden. Speaking of which, now is the perfect time to start this years garden. If you can’t get to the store for seeds or plants ,I have ordered a few plants from here and here. Click here for more of my garden and landscape tips.
Now is a great time to connect with others in your home
My hubby and I sit down each night after dinner on the porch and just connect. Whether it’s talking about the day, plans when the virus is over or just enjoying each others company. I find that peace and connection in our relationship helps to minimize the fear and anxiousness either of us feels ( me more then him) . With so much extra time I find I am having more time to spend with each of my kiddos too. The same holds true with reaching out to friends or family members ( via technology) to check in and see how they are doing. People need to feel connected right now, especially those that are alone in their homes.
Clean the house
Time to tackle the Spring cleaning and other projects around the house. Windows, baseboards, ceiling fans it’s all right there staring you in the face every day. I choose a few areas each day to work on and feel quite accomplished when I can cross them off the list. Something else I have been able to do, thanks to my local Sherwin Williams store, is start a few paint projects. Sherwin Williams will let you call in your order, pay on the phone and pick up curbside. I also heard you can order paint from Amazon.
Embrace this gift of time
It took me a few days to realize that I couldn’t control what was happening around me. That fussing or stressing out wasn’t going to change the course of the virus. What I could do was make the most of the situation and embrace the gift of time we were getting by having to stay home. Throw away the quilt from shamelessly watching netflix or Bravo. Go ahead and start reading your favorite magazines or books. Tackle a hobby or project you have wanted to start but haven’t because you didn’t have the time. Guess what…..you’ve got the time now, how do you want to use it?
How are you coping during this time?
My prayers continue to go out to everyone, particularly anyone that has been exposed to the virus, all health care workers trying to save lives, our local govt , community and national leaders trying to keep us safe. Stay patient, stay healthy and stay home!

I LOVE each and every one of these! Such great ways to make the most of all this extra time at home.
somedays I have ton of energy to get stuff down and some days none….but I am cutting my self some slack for the time being. stay well Kristi!
These are all wonderful ideas, Laura. I am taking each day as it comes and I am grateful that so far my family is safe and they are doing everything they can to stay that way. I pray for everyone who is in working to help others and in so doing are they themselves in danger from the virus. They are true heroes. xo Laura
Love these ideas! And I really should get some Spring cleaning into my schedule. Maybe I’ll try that 10-minute-a-day thing.
To be honest, I’ve been training for shelter-in-place for a decade now! Ha! My adjustment is having everyone home all the time!!! They have literally invaded my “home office.” 🙂
Linda
hey Linda, the pollen around here has me beat. not cleaning till the end of april! 🙂 stay well, glad everyone is home.
I’ve been a cleaning fool and a baking fool now that I’m stuck at home all the time. I swear I’ll be 500 pounds before it’s over, lol. Love the blue and white bedding. I’m not seeing a link for it. Do you remember where it came from?
Being a young, healthy and fit retiree and a homebody at heart I am not overly concerned for my husband and I – I do have deep concerns for all those affected with the virus, we desperately miss our 2 young granddaughters, our daughter and her husband, and we worry about what the future may hold for them. I will say I plan a different project every day – kind of the same as I always have. We had a wonderful family trip to Italy last August – so glad we went when we did. Our 5 year old granddaughter swam in Lake Como. We have those wonderful memories to sustain us. Our travel plans for this year are in limbo like everyone else. We have a fall trip to the mountains planned, and we are hoping things are better then. I have always spent a lot of time planning our days, especially healthy eating, but I now am concentrating even more on an immunity building lifestyle.
Such great tips for this crazy time we are living in! We are having sunshine and warmer temps today, so I’m heading outside to work! Take care!
I love all your tips. We’re also trying to get things done we’ve been meaning to. Just cleaned out the pool house and hoping to start planning our garden. LOVED all your tips. So glad you guys are staying well.
