This year my home is filled with traditional holiday colors. That seems to be the family color consensus when it comes to feeling festive around here. A few years ago I decided to take a departure from the reds and greens and I put up a beautiful tree decorated in blush.  You would have thought Christmas was canceled due to the reaction from my kids not seeing the traditional colored tree that they love dearly . So the next day while they were in school I switched out all the blush for red and green. You can read all about that here. Lesson learned … consult with family before picking out new colors. PS. I still think  it was one of my favorite trees ever.

So in keeping with tradition and inspired by a few plaid throws that I picked up from HomeGoods ( can’t beat the price for the throws) , I filled my home with reds, greens, blues and golds this year. Which means anything goes. I was able to pull in colors from the throw in my dishware, pillows, nutcrackers and ornaments on the tree. The family is happy.

Shop: Candlesticks, Green Candles

The mantel is typically the first thing that gets decorated around here in mid November. Our tree goes up the day after Thanksgiving after a trip to a local tree farm and a stop at Waffle House. This year I used the same garland that I have been using for years and added some swags to the ends for added interest. A collection of brass candlesticks, our family photo and a new print that I got here fit the look that I was after this holiday season. Calm and tranquil….. like the month is not chaotic enough.

My latest project

A recent project that I finished up was the wall. For the longest time it was a blank slate. We had thought about adding a window but then decided to put some wood planks and this pretty wallpaper that I found here. I painted the wall and cabinet Iron Ore from SW. I’ll be sharing more about this project later down the road.

We are getting our firebox and flue repaired so  I added a strand of lights in between some logs to give the feel of a cozy little fire. These lights ( I have them on the tree as well) actually have 8 different settings so it simulates a fire pretty well…and all by remote control.

Family Room

A few new pillows helps to keep my family’s favorite spot in the house cozy for the holiday season. Placing our Christmas tree in the corner in the eating area of our kitchen gives us full visibility from this room. If you didn’t know, this space use to be a screen porch when we designed our home and the room above was our family room. We shifted things around several years ago and love how it all came together.

Breakfast Area

When I was painting the other wall Iron Ore I decided to paint this room as well. Love the contrast of the dark with the white trim and white wood ceiling. I try to keep things minimal in this space since I don’t like to spoil the view. I picked up a few King Noble trees at Home Depot and put them in the corner.
