A few ways to hang on to Summer a bit longer
Welcome to Septembers Cozy Living Series where I am sharing a few ways to hang on to Summer a bit longer.
As I have gotten older I no longer wish for the next season to get here….I wait and enjoy the heck out of the one we are in. I now understand how quickly time flies. How quickly our children grow. How fast the days end. Before you know it, the new season will be here regardless of how fast I want it to come or how fast I want it to go. I use to think of summer’s that way. Although Summer has never been one of my favorite seasons……I want to hang on to it a bit longer.
A few ways to hang on to Summer a bit longer
Spend some time outside
Despite the heat, get outside for a few mins ( or longer) each day. Sit on your porch, patio or under a tree in your yard. Grab a refreshment, book or just enjoy a quiet moment alone. I may be going all southern on you, but pour yourself some iced tea. I happen to think I make the best around. You can find my recipe here and tell me what you think.
Make small decor changes
If you are itching to get all those fall bins from the attic, how about making just a few simple changes instead of full blown seasonal changes to your decor. Instead of swapping out all the pillows on the couch replace a few and start adding in some throws without changing out the entire space.
Care for your summer blooms and garden
It’s summer until my Boston Ferns on the porch say so….and still look big and green. If your summer blooms are looking spent and tired replace them with another late summer plant or flower. Most home and garden centers have summer blooms on clearance right now. If your summer days are still hot and dry, don’t forget to give everything plenty of water.
Finish that Summer Bucket List
Remember that summer bucket list you created last Spring? Now’s the time to start crossing things off that last as the days of summer start closing in.
Enjoy the summer fruits while you can
I take every opportunity to add fresh summer fruits and vegetables to my recipes. Although we didn’t do much in our garden because we are building a new one in a different location, I still found the freshest fruits and veggies to use for cakes like this or drinks like this watermelon cocktail.
Cheers to the remaining days of summer! How will you be spending them?

I think summer is over in my neck of the woods but I am looking forward to fall things to do like bonfires and pumpkin picking. I just added a few new pillows to my decor to carry me through for a while. I’m not ready to move into full blown fall decor yet.
It’s most definitely feeling like Fall here in northern Alberta, but I love these simple ways to enjoy the last few summer-like days that might roll through. And that cocktail looks delish!
I love summer and I will hang on until the bitter end. Fortunately summer lasts longer in Georgia than it did in Kentucky. That watermelon cocktail looks wonderful. xo Laura
I should definitely spend more time outdoors! I find myself hidden inside … but right now the temperatures are absolutely perfect for a walk with the dog or curling up on the porch with a book! Love your extending the summer suggestions, my friend! Hope all is going well with you and your family this fall! 🙂
Great tips for making summer last a bit longer. I love summer here by the sea and am sad when the kids go back to school. We’re still in summer mode but have a feeling I’ll be adding a few decorative touches for fall soon.
Summer is my favorite season – followed closely by fall. I don’t even want to think about what comes after fall! LOL. Love your ideas and couldn’t agree with you more – enjoy as much time outdoors as you can! Love your sectional, by the way!
These are great tips for this time of year! We keep rushing onto the next thing, without really enjoying the moment we are in! How about I swing over for some iced tea on the porch!
