Summer break is over and catching up with Duke Manor Farm
School is back in session which means I am back to work here on the blog. I have thoroughly enjoyed the summer break with the kids ….but missed you too. So I am getting my act together, projects lined up and my camera ready to share some new things, projects from the last few months and other happenings that are going on around Duke Manor Farm.
First Day Of School
If you been following the blog, you know ever year I share that first day of school picture. Twins are now in middle school and my oldest is in 8th grade. A few changes this year, all my kids are in the same school……so one car ride line! The other change for the twins, is not having to wear a school uniform. Clothes shopping for school is a whole new world for them. I did most of the shopping for all the kids here. They have a good mix of what the boys wear ( athletic shorts and shirts) and cute apparel for juniors.
Over the Summer Rug Swap
Over the summer I replaced the rugs in my family room and eating area in the kitchen for this rug. I wanted the area to flow better with identical rugs in both the spaces. I also love having a more forgiving pattern for any spills that happen under the table. I’ll share more in a later post but here’s a peek of of the family room with the new darker rug.
This is Us
We picked up the kids from school on Friday and got in the car to drive to Virginia for a family wedding on Saturday. It was at a beautiful state park in Dublin, Va. Since it’s rare that I get a smirk or even a smile these days from my 13 year old, I wanted to share a ‘somewhat’ smile from the wedding. These moments don’t happen often so it only seems appropriate to document….and smile.
Upcoming Projects
As I mentioned some of the projects that I started before summer break will be getting some attention as well as a few things that I thought about over the summer. One project that I can’t wait to share with you is my son’s teen room. I transformed his previous Star Wars themed space into a more mature room for a growing teenage boy.
One project that I am less excited to share with you in it’s current state is our back upper deck, although my hubby was thrilled to get to demo something over the summer. This was during the demo. It has since been completely taken down. More on this situation in a later post.
Yikes!!! On that note, thanks for checking in on summer break is over and catching up with Duke Manor Farm. I can’t wait to reconnect with you all and get back into a regular posting schedule. If there is anything you would like to see more of here on the blog, just leave me a comment. My goal is to share and inspire. If you missed my last post you can catch up here.
Have a great week!

Great post, Laura! Is it really that time? I have so many family members who are teachers and the first day of school is so different for all schools.
Love the pics of your family. I think your youngest boy favors you very much. For photos, I used to always tell my kids to tilt their heads and act like they loved each other. Made for some good framers!
