Monday Morning Catch Up at Duke Manor Farm

Well it’s official, Summer Break is in the house! Kids got out of school on Friday until August 2nd. Not sure if I should laugh or cry 🙂  One thing is for certain, we are all ready for some down time….. and that my house will not be this clean for 11 weeks.

Kittens

Would you look how cute the kittens are! They are a little over 2 weeks old and they are just the sweetest. They are in the open the eyes and scoot around phase. The kids finally settled on the names. Dave, Turtle and Fox. The mix of colors is quite interesting since the mama is a tabby cat.  As much as I appreciate your comments, PLEASE do not leave me a comment about spaying or neutering my animals. I have mentioned this before, THIS was a planned event with our cat.

Outdoor Projects

We have been spending the last few weekends busting tail on the landscape and backyard pond. I had a few pallets of mulch and rock delivered to freshen things up. It sure is a lot of work but someone’s gotta do it. Besides, we really enjoy doing all the landscape and outdoor projects ourselves.  It’s our relaxation in a weird way. You can find more before and after of the backyard pond here.

Talk about yard transformations. Look at the before and after when we laid the Zoysia sod.

Two years later……

I can’t say enough about how amazing, green and easy this grass has been. If you are in a southern zone it’s definitely a sod worth checking into. Here are a few other benefits.

    • warm-season grass with improved cold tolerance
    • prefers sun, tolerates some light shade
    • heat- and drought-tolerant
    • low water and maintenance requirements
    • dense, traffic-tolerant growth

  1. I think it’s wonderful for children to experience babies of any kind when they are young.!

  2. The kittens sure are cute. Are you keeping them ?

Hubby finally got to work on our deck. The weekends have rain for a month. We haven’t even planted annuals yet. Hopefully this weekend

  3. Laura, those three little kittens are so cute — and such cute names for them! How nice for the children to be able to experience all the little and big animals around your gorgeous home! This is wonderful for them!

Your back yard is so beautiful! We know that it’s a lot of work but how nice things always look when you are finished and can just relax and enjoy! We are just working on ours at the moment. We are putting down mulch and moving around some large rocks. Plus we are putting up a flag pole and flying our Texas flag — once the frost is out of the ground! Hope you enjoy every summer day with your hubby and children! Have a great week!

  4. Kittens are cute but cats are prolific breeders. Hopefully, you plan to have them all tested and spayed/neutered, including mama cat. Otherwise, you’ll end up with 100 cats. I volunteer with my local Humane Society and we are constantly working with people to get their animals altered and finding homes for unwanted animals when they fail to do so.

    1. Rachel, thanks for your comment/concern. As I have mentioned several times when I have shared the kittens THIS was a planned event. We are responsible pet owners who happen to live on a farm with most of our animals being rescued or taken in when owners could not provide or care for their pet…. horse, donkey, cat, dog etc. Living in the country we see our share of irresponsibile pet owners ALL THE TIME, dumping unwanted animals on the side of the road….I get.
