Monday Morning Catch Up with Duke Manor Farm
Welcome to Monday Morning Catch Up with Duke Manor Farm. Now that Spring Break is over we are counting down the weeks for the end of the school year. The next six weeks will go by so quickly so we are starting to put together summer plans and get the pool area ready. It was this time two years ago that it was being built and we feel so blessed to be able to have a pool for the kids ( mom and dad too) to enjoy. To read about the build click here.
Great place to visit
One of the things we did last week on Spring Break is hiked at Talllulah Gorge. The Gorge is located in Northeast Georgia and is a wonderful place for a quick and relatively easy hike…….except for the 1200 stairs down to the bridge. I took tons of pictures that I can’t wait to share with you and more details about the park if you have never been. If you live in Georgia or visiting anytime soon, you will want to put it on your ‘To See’ list.
Ducks have some new digs
Something else we did during the break was build a new pond for the ducks. Woo hoo….well to my sweet Lily anyways. The previous pond was turning into a giant mud pit because the liner wasn’t big enough, so it was time. It was something that we had wanted to do for a while. Next up will be fence this area so that the ducks are separated from the chickens. I will share more about this on the next Farm Friday.
Guest Bathroom Progress
I am just about finished with the guest bathroom. I decided at the 11th hour to go with quartz on the vanity instead of wood. So happy with the decision. Over the weekend I bought this light on sale and am waiting for it to show up so I can do a full reveal for you. Here’s the quartz that I went with.
The Pollen in Atlanta
The other day the pollen count in Northeast Georgia was over 6000. Apparently it has not been this high in years and years. In fact, in addition to our crazy traffic in Atlanta, we are also #1 for the highest pollen hot spots.
1Atlanta, GA 6262
Waco, TX 3274
San Antonio, TX 3027
Springfield, NJ 2636
Tulsa, OK 1923
But temptation got the best of me and I finally hosed off what seemed like 4 inches of yellow pollen from the porch. I just couldn’t take it any longer!
But despite the high pollen count, and a sniffle or two everything blooming sure is pretty. Don’t you think? The purple flowers are called ‘Thrift’. When they are not blooming during March and April they are like a green evergreen ground cover. It’s also a spreader. You may want to consider for your own garden next spring.
Enjoy your week!

I so enjoy your posts and your home is lovely. My husband and I are about 2-3 years from retirement and presently live in the Tampa, FL area (past 33 years). We love visiting Dahlonega, GA and get there every year for a couple days of R&R. I have mentioned to the hubby on many occasions over the past few years that we are retiring there! I’ve about got him convinced!!
Your home and pool are beautiful!!
Laura, your home, yard and pool are just gorgeous! So nice to see Spring in your part of the world! All we have here is snow and a lake with 4′ of ice on it! Our Spring is really going to be late this year! Some of the Canada geese arrived on the weekend. Feel sorry for them as it is just so cold and no water around for them yet. Enjoy your week and thanks, again, for sharing your beautiful home and yard with us! Your pictures are definitely a breath of Spring air!
Thanks so much Mary-Ann. I will try to inspire you with spring until your snow is all gone. Enjoy your week!
What is the pretty lavender ground cover in your last photo?
HI. It’s called Thrift and it’s a wonderful and hardy bloomer in march and april. when it’s not blooming it’s a green ground cover.
