Hatching Chicken Eggs for the First Time using an egg incubator

Hope you all had a lovely Easter. We were over here at Duke Manor Farm eating chocolate bunnies and taking care of new chicks. Yes, we hatched our very first eggs last week and the kids are so excited. I must admit it was such an amazing experience from start to finish.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I got Lily this egg incubator so we can try to hatch our own eggs instead of buying new chicks. Guess what….it worked. Not one, but 5 new chicks to add to the coop. This post is more about the chick cuteness. I’ll share in a later post about the process and some of the tips we followed in case hatching eggs is in your future.

Getting Ready

When this started happening, we knew it was only a matter of time before a little chick popped out of it’s shell. Whats crazy is when this happens  ( egg splitting) you can hear chirping noises. This was the first egg to hatch.

Not long after…… this happened. Hello lil chick. Newly born chicks are not the cutest. It’s after a few hours that they start to fluff up and the cuteness sets in. What’s important after they are hatched is that they continue to stay warm for  few hours in the incubator and then moved out under a heat lamp.

This is about 12 hours later. See how fluffy and cute they are!

Wait…there’s more

We put 6 eggs in the incubator and 5 successfully hatched. Here are a few more that were hatched shortly after the first one. The brown egg was hatched a couple of days later.

24 hours later they are ready for their first photo shoot. Look how cooperative  they are. They sat and smiled better then my kids do!
