Monday Morning Catch Up at Duke Manor Farm

Monday Morning Catch Up at Duke Manor Farm including the easiest spring decor idea and a peek at guest bath project

Thanks for stopping by for Monday morning catch up at Duke Manor Farm. My white winter legs saw the light this weekend! The weather is Northeast Georgia was ABSOLUTELY gorgeous.  That meant getting some outdoor chores done ( like pressure washing the driveway, which was totally random and not planned) and porch time with the family.

Keeping it real

I think I figured out a way to get more family time. Every Saturday I have been making a treat that they love. In order to enjoy my delectable treats the kids have to sit inside or outside with the family for at least 30 mins and talk. So far the bribery it’s working. Balancing technology, and good ole fashion playing like a kid presents some challenges in my household. Couple that, with learning how to navigate the waters…and hormones of a 13 year old boy. At times I feel like I am managing the use of technology full time. Although we have a schedule…and my boys know it, it is always met with resistance. We are constantly implementing new guidelines  ( which my kids don’t always appreciate) to insure that they know there is more to life then a ‘screen’. Chime in in the comments if you face the same challenges with keeping it balanced and tips from your household that seem to work. FYI: We use Norton Family to monitor screen time apps, time and pages.

Guest Bath Update

Speaking of projects, we finally got the tile down on the bathroom floor and finished the walls. I am letting the tile cure for 24 hours and will grout this week, followed by some trim work. We hope to have the toilet and sink in place by the end of the week. I will be sharing more about this project and my best tips for tiling this week on the blog. Amazing price for this light

My favorite chandelier in the house ( actually my only one) is currently on major sale. It’s a whole lot less then what I paid for it. Shop it here. You can see how I transformed my unused Dining Room into a music room here.

Effortless Spring Decor Idea

As you saw in my Spring tour I don’t go all out crazy with seasonal decor. I was in Home Goods the other day and walked out with these cute bunny dish towels . They add the perfect amount of whimsy for the spring season as well as practicality. I couldn’t find a link to them but did find some other super cute ones that would be perfect in any spring kitchen.

  1. Circle by Disney has been a game changer in our home. My teenagers hate it so I know it is working. It also helps us keep track of our screen time as parents. We have been bowling lately which seems to keep the teens off their phones also. The nice weather in coastal Alabama has helped getting my kids outside. Just ready for the yellow pollen to blow north 😉

  2. Good morning,
As my children were growing up….technology was just starting with everyone having cells phones. It was a tradition in our family that dinner time – everyone would be at the table. Each child had to share something from their day…good, bad, what they were stressing over, to the new outfit they wanted. Each child had their time…then afterwards, everyone cleaned up. It may mean that we ate a 8 pm or 5 pm….but everyone had to be at the table. Over a period of time, sometimes the kids were come it and tell me….I have something to discuss tonight at dinner….they were excited about doing it. Whatever you choose…continue.

As my kids grew into adults…and they enjoyed going out to dinner…the one that picked up their phone and had to answer..look something up…or respond to a text…just bought the family meal that nights. From fast food to a nice dinner, the rule was, phone was not more important than the people sitting in front of you. When they brought friends along…they told their friends and the same applied for them…(not buying everyone’s dinner).

    Good luck…
