Monday Morning Catch Up from Duke Manor Farm
Monday Morning Catch Up from Duke Manor Farm
Well it’s been about a week since I had my surgery to remove a neuroma from my right foot and I am feeling like a new human today. Despite still needing to elevate the foot as much as I can and not being able to drive, I have so much more energy and motivation then I have had over the last few days. I am not a big fan of the drowsiness and lack of clarity from the pain meds so I am weaning myself, hopefully I won’t regret that. If you have had the same surgery or know someone who had leave me your experience in the comments. Did it work? Should I continue with the pain meds? When did you start to feel like you could walk on your foot?
Monday Morning Catch Up from Duke Manor Farm
So with all this stored up energy I thought I would hobble to my office today to catch up and touch base with ya’ll.
Is it Spring time already?
Someone forgot to tell my Cherry trees that Spring doesn’t officially start until March 20th this year. This is the tree in the backyard and although it seems a bit early for it to bloom, it’s majestic color is such a welcomed sight. I noticed my daffodils are emerging but haven’t quite bloomed yet. Got any bloomers in your yard yet?
Rug Sale
In between moments of clarity last week I was able to order the smaller version of this rug for my front door area. Thank goodness it was only a $30 spend! I get a lot of comments about this amazing rug. I had it in my bedroom for a while and then moved it when we created a piano room. It is so soft and so reasonable priced I wanted to pass it on if you are looking for something in this color.
The animals are loving ……..
this weather. For several weeks they have had their blankets on. They are so happy when they can shed those things and enjoy all that sunshine. This was Manny last weekend when the temps got into the 60’s. I put a blanket on the horses if the temps are going to be in the 30’s. There are certain factors that determine if you should and the type of blanket you should use in colder weather on your horses.
I have a teenager in the house
Oh lordy….help. Last week we celebrated my son’s 13th birthday. We celebrated with just the family with chocolate cake and my son’s favorite ….Chick-fil-a. The twins were responsible for the decorations and cake making. It’s amazing the things kids can do when you step back. In true teenage fashion he decided at the last minute he wanted to do something with his pals, so will do something this weekend.
Thank you for all your well wishes and thoughts last week. It means a lot to have such caring readers.
Enjoy your week!
grateful
for a supportive and helpful family

So sorry to hear about your foot surgery – I have had 2 foot surgeries and a number of other surgeries over the years. I would say if you can get by with 1 or two Aleve a day that would be the way to go. Elevation and cold packs help as well. A bit of humor – my foot surgeon told me that unfortunately the foot is the only part of the body that after surgery you will have to walk on it! I wish you a speedy recovery, but it does take time to heal (I could have said “heel” – LOL).
ha….love your humor. enjoy your week!
Hi!
So sorry for your foot problems. Not being able to ambulated as you desire is more of an annoyance that I know well from past surgeries of my own. Time heals, so just be patient. Walking on a surgical foot too soon can create future problems so just do as the doctor says and all will be well in ‘time’.
As for the pain meds, if you feel great as you say, off the meds, then it’s time to “be off”. They are meant as a ‘temporary crutch’ as we mend, not as something to continue. It’s too easy to depend on these which creates bigger problems.
So dear friend, enjoy some down time and rest your body. Time will go quickly and you’ll be good to go.
Deb
thanks Deb. you are right, patience is the best medicine for me. enjoy your week.
I’m sporting one of those walking shoes myself. Could they get any uglier? I’ve been toying with the idea. . . Let’s bedazzle it…. Whatcha Think?
oh no, what happened? seriously, you would think they would come out with something cuter! feel better.
Hope for fast healing ❤️.oh THANKS for the beautiful picture of your tree ,we are getting hit almost every three days with snow & or ice. Keep those spring pictures coming.
If it’s narcotics, you should try to get off them. I was going to have foot surgery, but thankfully PT has kept me from it. It would involve the BONE in my heel and even with that, the surgeon told me she would have me off narcotics in 3 days. When my sister had the same surgery as you, I believe she had to stay off her foot a bit longer, but I don’t think she took pain meds more than a few days. She probably went to Advil/Ibuprofin after that. Can you ice it?
Cherry trees are blooming here too and I’ve seen forsythia and daffodils blooming. Our bradford pears and my tulip tree have tiny buds!!!
Happy to read your feeling a bit better. I don’t enjoy how prescription pain medications makes me feel either.
Your Cherry blossom is a beautiful sight to see for us dealing with the cold.
Cindy
thanks cindy. feel like a walking zombie. stop taking them and everything immediately changes!
Hi❤️. I fractured my foot on two different metatarsals. Culprit…. I tripped over a dog bone and fell into my kitchen’s concrete floor. Ouch. I can’t even imagine how much your foot hurts. How long did your doctor say to stay off of it?
As far as the ugly shoe…..it would help if the toe was closed. Who likes sticking their foot in cold water or snow. Take care of yourself, and let yourself heal
Pam
So happy to hear you’re feeling more like yourself! I have cherry trees blooming as well as Japanese magnolia.
thank you so much christi. I am sure yourcherry trees and japanese magnolias are such a welcome sight. Not familiar with japanese magnolia. is it much different then the common magnolia with white blooms?
I just love Spring time at the Duke Manor Farm….hope you are healing quickly and will be back on your feet soon! I know you have great caregivers, not to mention a great in-house chef!
Laura, so happy to read that you are feeling a little better! Great news! That gorgeous picture of your cherry tree is such a breath of fresh air for me as it’s going to be months before anything blooms here in the frozen north! We are getting two days of snow! This has been such a long winter and especially since we couldn’t get away to Texas this year!
Loved that picture of Mandy! I bet she is really missing you these days! Take care, Laura, and keep your foot elevated as much as you can!
Hi Laura,
Hope your foot is feeling much better now without the throbbing/burning going on… I had plantar fasciitis surgery about 10 years ago now on my right foot, and although I can no longer really run, it is wonderful to be able to walk more than a mile at a time. I still have long heel spurs but really padded shoes like Skechers help when you don’t want to wear orthotics all the time, plus good sandals.
Valentine’s blessings to you and your family,
Hugs,
Barb 🙂
