Changes to my 16 year old guest bath

This is a project that has been long overdue. My guest bath. And I CAN NOT WAIT!

Changes to my 16 year old guest bath

I think outside of the kitchen, this guest bath is the most used room in the house. Years of use, little boys growing up ( you know what I mean)  a poorly designed vanity/faucet which is the primary reason for this project ( by yours truly)  and a wall treatment that I was stuck with ( more on that in a bit) it was just time to address a redo.

The primary reason behind a redo……water damage

When you first look at my guest bath all seems to be okay. As you enter the space though you would see rotted baseboards between the vanity and toilet. This was most likely caused from water run off from the counter top due to our faucet spout not being long enough.  For this redo, we will be doing a vessel sink to eliminate that from happening again. Baseboards would have been a relatively easy fix if it wasn’t for another change that I wanted to make as well.

Another reason for the redo….the walls

Maybe 12 ish years ago I created this faux stone look in the walls  complete with a lemon tree. I have since painted over it. You can read all about that project here. Because of the texture and the lines that were created on the wall, simply painting or even wallpapering is not an option. Note to self …no more faux stone on the walls. Looking back, wallpaper would have been a better option for my stone fix..

Last reason…..

The 3rd and less significant reason is just because I want to …..freshen up the space.  I  created a budget that was doable and  put a timeline together and I think we can get this done in the next few weekends. We actually picked up the tile today and I will share that here in a minute. First though, is my inspiration for the space and some of the products I will be using. I’ll get into more specifics about each product in a later post.

In a nutshell,  I will be keeping the toilet, vanity and light.  The real work will be replacing the walls, tiling the floor and adding a wood countertop on the vanity. I am going to change out the mirror and add some fun art work of my horses. There’s no sense spending money for someone else’s animals to be hanging on the walls, although this image looks just like my girl Manny.

Ahhh, I think I’m going to love it! Got these  8×8 ceramic tiles from Lowes.

Instead of just ‘here is my project’ I hope to share more of the progress along the way. Since we do all of the work ourselves, I hope to inspire  you with some of your own ideas and projects that you thought you couldn’t do….. but really can.

  1. I am soooo excited about this! Absolutely LOVE the tile choice! 😍.

I do miss that lemon tree! 😂

  2. Love the floor and yes wallpaper in this instance would have been better but we all made choices like this for sure.

I will enjoy seeing the new look and your horse is so beautiful. You will have a super subject.

Hope the foot is coming along

  3. Laura, you are sure going to be busy! It’s going to look so nice once you are finished with the renos! Make sure you rest that foot! Looking forward to seeing your pictures once you are done. Take care!

  4. You are obviously a brave and adventuresome woman with a plethora of skills. You go, girl! I look forward to following your project to be completed in a couple of weeks. When my friends tell me something similar, I usually say, “Oh, you mean it’s going to be ready for Thanksgiving.” Now since we’re just meeting, I’ll pull for you for those two weeks. Thanks for stopping by for a visit at Entertaining Women. I hope that you’ll drop in to see what’s going on more often. I’ll be back to see how you get rid of the texture from those stone blocks. I used to paint murals in homes and businesses, as well as tromp l’ceil furniture on commission. I loved it, but I don’t see myself spending all day on a ladder anymore. It is good to meet you!
