5 Simple touches to warm up your winter home this season
Ahh winter. You either love it or hate it. As for me, I actually love it, until the temperatures dip into the 20ish degree range….and I have to go outside first thing in the morning and feed the animals. Nobody ever talks about that part of having farm animals…..it’s no fun. Today I wanted to share 5 Simple touches to warm up your winter home this season. Even though it’s chilly outside, doesn’t mean you can’t create a warm cozy home on the inside. I am joining my Cozy Living pals again this month. Special thanks to my pal Jennifer from Town and Country Living who hosts this series each month. Click here to see all my previous cozy living posts. I love to see the various ways others make their homes and lives more cozy and memorable. My hope is that it inspires you to do the same in your own home. All the links for more inspiring ideas and stories will be at the end of the post. Don’t forget to stop by and visit each one.
Warm and Cozy Entry
For the last few years I have used neutrals and less traditional Christmas colors on my front doors. This allows me to keep the wreaths and trees up through the winter time. This year I used a classic plaid and paired it with green velvet. The simplicity and coloring is perfect for the next few months. The picture below is what I did last year using a similar approach to maximize the amount of time I could keep the wreaths up….without looking like I was lazy and didn’t take down the holiday decor.
Mix in some holiday decor
Speaking of holiday decor, hold off on putting it all away this weekend. I placed a small tree and a little brass deer on the side table in my guest room. It’s just what this room needs during the winter season to make it more cozier for my guests. I also paired my neutral bedding with a darker throw and pillow for the winter months. Just those few additions warm up this space during the winter months.
Make some cookies
I learned this trick when I sold real estate and you were showing a home to a prospective buyer. Candles, and fresh baked cookies almost always create a warm and cozy environment. You can find my ‘beyond easy’ chocolate chip cookie recipe that I will be making all winter long here.
Add Color
In the absence of color on the outside , winter is the perfect time to bring color to your inside spaces. The addition of a few rich jewel tone pillows paired with what you already have on the couch will help to create a warm environment inside….even if it’s chilly on the outside. I am embracing this wood burning stove a bit more on cold winter days.
Don’t forget texture
Adding texture to your space is a great design tip regardless of the season but works particularly well in the winter. You can texture to a space in a variety of ways. The simplest way to add texture is with textiles such as pillows and throws. A room sans a few knit throws and fur pillows during the winter months, does not look as warm and cozy as a room that does. Right? Rugs and plants are also an easy way to add textured elements to your space.
I hope that these 5 Simple tips will warm up your winter home this season. What do you do to help create a warm and cozy home that’s not on my list? Leave it in the comments so we can all be inspired. Ready for more ideas to help create a cozy home. Just click on the links below.

thanks Karen. have a great week
I never really took a good look at the front of your home. The pillars, shingles and stone add so much interest and of course, everyone loves a porch. So very pretty!
thanks Joanna. i wanted a slight mix of different elements on the house. have a great week!
I love your ideas, Laura. Keeping up winter elements that we pare away from Christmas is perfect for keeping our decor from getting boring. I love your wreaths…I was wondering what to do with mine and I guess all I have to do is take some of the red berries and bows off it!!
Jane
hi Jane. Holding on to some of the decorations a bit longer without all the clutter still makes it festive enough without such a blank slate. hope you are doing well and have a great week ahead.
Laura, I love all your cozy tips. I don’t envy you having to feed the animals in the cold. I’m NOT a winter person and am always cold. We also love to bake. It makes it feel so cozy. xx
Oh, and can I also say your home looks just stunning in the snow?!?
thanks Danielle.
Your home looks like it’s right out of a magazine, so gorgeous! Thank you for those tips, I think I need to go bake some cookies right now. xo
you are too kind Laurie.
I agree with Danielle – your home looks stunning in snow! And I also say YES to baking cookies!!
My woodstove is in action from Oct through April on our mountain top, and it’s the best thing to cozy up my winter home, no doubt!! Add candles, soft music, good food, and my sweet pups and what more do I need?
