Create a festive holiday home with what you got tour
Create a festive holiday home with what you got tour….. without buying new stuff to decorate your home this season
Welcome and happy holidays from Duke Manor Farm! I have been participating in this holiday home tour for a few years now and it’s always one that I look forward to each December. Not only to show you around Duke Manor Farm but also to tour some beautiful holiday homes. Special thanks to Marty from A Stroll Thru Life who hosts this tour each year. You can see last years home where I decorated in blush here.
If you are visiting from Amber’s beautiful home at Follow the Yellow Brick Home welcome!!! So much holiday goodness to inspire us all.
A little bit about Duke Manor Farm. My husband and I moved from a suburb outside of Atlanta to a small county town, population 500 in Northeast Georgia about 17 years ago. We found our land, designed the house and actually did some of the building ourselves. From growing up with one dog to having a life raising chickens, ducks, horses, dogs, cats, goats, donkeys……and kids, we wouldn’t trade it for anything. So come on in….and enjoy the tour.
After going through a major purge of holiday decorations last year that I wasn’t using and just taking up bin space, I was real intentional this year to use stuff that I had and that I love. Other then some new plaid pillows that I used on the porch and a piece of fur fabric that I used as a runner on my kitchen table, everything else were things I have used over the years….just in a different way and manner. Can I tell you how great it was not hauling down 500 bins from the attic this year.
Master Bedroom
For the last few years I have put a small tree in my bedroom. This year I donated the tree that I used in my room last year to the kids classroom. Even though there is something so magical and pretty about having a tree in your peaceful sanctuary, I think you can still accomplish that with a few holiday touches. This year I decided to add a few things that would give me that special holiday feeling.
Once I placed a wreath over my bed, it instantly felt like the holidays. I also added some small trees to the nightstands. I used some small trees that you have seen here and here in the corner and a glass vase filled with some ornaments in gold and silver. See I told you, it doesn’t take much.
If you recall this room had navy accents, curtains and rug. When I did the room switcheroo I swapped rugs and brought the Dining Room rug into here. Since I had the white bedding already I added some pillows and a fur throw to give it a wintery vibe. I got the pillow from here . One of the projects ( although there’s a few) that I didn’t get to this year was painting this room and figuring out something for behind the bed ( maybe wallpaper?) I hope to jump on that in January.
Piano room
We are having so much fun playing Christmas songs on the piano. My daughter Lily has been playing for a couple of years. I started playing about 6 months ago and my son recently started playing. It has always been a dream of mine to be able to play and happy to do it on a baby grand that my mom gave to us as a gift earlier in the year. I wanted to keep the room festive and elegant at the same time. The big tree in the room does just that.
You may or may not know, but this room use to be our formal Dining room….that we never used, except for holidays. A few months ago I converted it to the ‘Piano Room’. You can read about the transformation and the changes we made to the space here.
Lily and I will be playing a duet to O Come, All Ye Faithful next week when our music group plays at a local assisted living center. How fun is that… I will be the only 50 year old that looks like a 10 year old in the group. Don’t forget to follow me here to see how that all goes.
The tree in this room is one that I have had for about 15 years ( or longer) I can’t believe how well it has held up. Initially I was gonna leave the tree bare and just sprinkled the lights at the base and only because I didn’t have enough lights that worked. After about the 100th time of the kids asking “when are you decorating the tree” I decorated the tree. All the ornaments were one’s that I used when I did blush here in my family room last year and navy in my bedroom here.
Kids Den
The kids den is downstairs outside of their bedrooms. Since the tree that I normally put in here went to the piano room ,we are sans a big tree in this space this year. You can see last year’s tree here. No worries though, mama added some festive little touches to still make it special for them.
Thank goodness the lighted garland and nutcrackers sufficed since nobody asked when am I putting up the Christmas tree!
In case you are wondering here’s our family tree. You can see more of my family room and kitchen area all decorated for the holidays here.

Be sure to come back next week where I wrap up the holiday decorating with our exterior lights and our festive screen porch. Don’t forget to follow Duke Manor Farm on instagram and/or facebook and signup for my emails below so you don’t miss a thing going on around Duke Manor Farm.
