My Holiday Home Tour 2018
Holiday Home Tour Kitchen
Since I went through a major purge last holiday season and donated and gave away things I no longer used or wanted, I was very intentional to use what I had when decorating my home for the season. I challenged myself to only buy one or two things if I absolutely had to…. I did, and to use what I had to create a festive, cozy holiday home for my family. A story and post for another day, but thought I accidentally gave away a bin with our family stockings and some other special stuff and just found it late yesterday. The tree you see today is sans the family ornaments and stockings and one pic has the ornaments and stockings.

My mantel is adorned by a giant wood star that my hubby made a few years ago when we used them for outdoor lights. You can see all the details on how to make your own here. Some garland that I have used for years is draped with some blue plaid ribbon and colored ornaments. I’m a traditional red girl at heart during the holidays but mixed in some navy, gold and green this year. You can see how I used blush last year here. ps- gotta give hubby some kudos as he also made the tree box.
The thing I bought this holiday season
Remember the one thing that I just needed to buy, well it was this faux fur material that I am using as a table runner. It’s kinda is a bit too furry but looks too cozy to take off. Besides when it’s on the table the kids started petting it. I bought the ruby colored dishware about 10 years ago at an after clearance sale at Target. It was so cheap I bought enough place settings for my entire town to sit down and eat with us. Not really, although the population of my town is 504.
Mini trees, plaid napkins and gold candlesticks complete the look. I really love to sit at the table by candlelight and the twinkling lights from the tree. It feels so magical and special as we sit down and eat dinner.
Here’s a picture I took with the family ornaments and stockings all hung up. I have been collecting some of these ornaments for 30+ years as well as the ornaments my kids have made. Talk about our own Christmas miracle to find the bin.
Since I like clutter free counters, the mantel was about the only area that got some holiday love in the kitchen area. Besides, seeing our family tree as wash the dishes and make school lunches is good enough for me….although seriously, how many cups can your kids go through in one day!

Family Room
If you don’t know the back story, this space was designed as a screened porch when we were building our home. At the 11th hour we decided to enclose it and use it as a seasonal porch. That lasted a few years until we transformed the space by putting in heating and air into our family room. Best.Decision.Ever. It’s like all the comforts of being in a real tree house, with heat, air and wifi.
A couple of pillow swaps, a little faux tree and a small wood bowl holding ornaments is all this room needed to get that cozy, winter like feel. We were having a very foggy day when I took these pics. It almost looked like it was snowing outside….wishful thinking.

Hi Laura – Your home always looks amazing and now extra festive for the holidays. I am happy that you found the kids stockings. I have been guilty of purging things I didn’t intend or like what happened to you, you reorganized where things were stored and couldn’t find them. 🙂 Enjoy the season, your family and all the magic the season brings.

Everything looks wonderful Laura. I had to giggle about the kids petting the runner. Let’s be honest if my husband sat there he would touch it too.

thanks Kristie…glad you found Duke Manor Farm! Enjoy the holiday season.
Beautiful as usual. To answer the question about cups… my guess is about 3×4 = 12 cups minimum a day. I only guess that because I think mine was this equation… 6×4 = 24. I’m sure of it, or it could have been 10 cups a day for a total of 60. Whatever it was it forced me as an old woman to reuse my coffee cup later in the day out of guilt.
thanks Bliss. not sure what the cup answer is all about????
Laura everything is just so fun and festive! Your home speaks to my love of homes that are both beautiful and functional and reflect a family that actually lives there. Thank you for sharing it with us! Merry Christmas my friend! xoxo
