Happenings at Duke Manor Farm…new ducks, chicks and unfinished projects
If you are looking for the exterior renovation post it’s here
Hope you had a great weekend. We were doing a little bit of this and a little of that. Trying to remember if we actually accomplished anything. Is that you sometimes too?
Happenings at Duke Manor Farm…new ducks, chicks and unfinished projects
New Chicks and Ducklings
Well, I have a few more mouths to feed over here at Duke Manor Farm. Last week we picked up 5 Ducklings and 6 chicks. They are just the sweetest little things when they are this small, until they grow up and poop all over the front porch. Don’t you agree?
Still Waiting
If you follow me on Instastories you have seen my daily updates with our brooding hen. We are anxiously awaiting and hoping that we can hatch our own baby chicks but the clock is ticking and it’s either gonna happen this week or we just have a big lazy hen that we will need to relocate and get off those eggs. This is all new to us so if you have any advice on how to wean her if these eggs are not fertilized leave me a comment….please.
Unfinished Project
I feel like I am ratting myself out by sharing this picture….but it is what it is. Unfinished. My breakfast area off of our kitchen which will soon become the only Dining Area in the house. My current Dining Room ( that we never use except for once a year) will become the music room to house the Baby Grand Piano.
So you may recall ( or not since it’s been since May) that I needed to put another coat on the ceiling since wood knots were showing through. Well that turned into me taking down the wall of shelves that I really didn’t want and then deciding what I wanted to put on the wall. Wood or tile. Decision made…..three months later. Tile and wood it is. More details to come about my plans for this space. Click here to see where I put the shelves.
Tip for easier school morning breakfast
Getting the kids to eat a decent breakfast is not always easy, especially when they are sleepy and just want to go back to bed. For the last couple of years I will cook more then I need during our Saturday and or Sunday breakfast’s and put in the frig to eat during the week. Something the kids love and is super easy to heat up and serve are waffles.
Our beloved waffle maker died a few weeks ago so I bought this one for about $20.00 and I love it. It’s super simple to use, has an indicator light to let you know when the waffles are done and you can adjust the browning setting. I really like how fast it heats up and cooks the waffles, so if you need to whip some up during a school morning you will still get the kids out the door in time. And that’s a beautiful thing!
PS- I use Krusteaz Belgian waffle mix. My kids think it tastes like cake batter.
grateful
for smooth school mornings

I grew up in rural surroundings, but my first glimpse of the big duck, I wondered WHAT IS THAT. I had never looked at a duck that close. They are beautiful.
Cute aren’t they? We have never had one that wasn’t yellow so I’m interested to see the coloring once he/she is bigger. Have a lovely week.
Love the baby chicks – I grew up on a farm so can appreciate that close up! So ooo cute!
yes, until they get bigger and poop and eat all my pretty plants!
They are so cute. Hope as the duck grows it keeps its poop to itself. I remember when they used to go on your porch but you fixed that issue.
Can’t wait to see the room
Enjoy the rest of your day

Ha. so true. Hopefully with the new fence around the coop area this will no longer be the case.
Do you have a good recipe to share that you use with your waffle maker?
