Updates from around Duck Manor and the new ducks
It couldn’t feel more like Spring around North East Georgia. Beautiful temps, blooming flowers and 5 inches of yellow pollen…..everywhere. I finally gave up and brought most of the outdoor cushions inside just until it slows down. When it does, I will follow my spring cleaning routine on all of the porches and patios. How’s the pollen in your next of the woods?
I get asked about my ceiling color often. The color is called Open Air from SW. Our exterior color is called Sedate Gray, also from SW.
Saying goodbye to our Bear
Sadly we lost our beloved Bear a few weeks ago. He was such a gentle giant and protector. You can see my tribute here. Losing a family pet isn’t easy, and we sure do miss him. He was a rescue that we got about 10 years ago. Funny thing is my friend asked ” Do you want a puppy” brought him over, and he was like 50 pounds!
My best before and after
Who doesn’t love a great before and after. My kitchen has probably gone through the most significant changes since we built our home 15 years ago. And although I still have a few minor changes that I want to make, I have no regrets painting the wood color cabinets to white. As the kids get older the little ‘paw prints’ are becoming less of a struggle to clean up.

The farm has grown
The farm welcomed some new ducklings this week. And not just one…..four. Cuteness overload. Lily is having the best time taking them swimming each day and ‘training’ them….so she thinks. We are working on an secure fenced area to keep all the chickens and ducks in, so that wild critters aren’t a threat and the random drops of poop on the front porch stop. Yay to no more duck and chicken poop. That’s worse then 5 inches of pollen!
Enjoy your weekend!
Laura, so sorry to read about your precious Bear. My heart goes out to you as this is such a sad time. Hold on to the many precious memories you have with Bear! What a sweet picture of your daughter and Bear! These pets just have a real way of capturing our hearts! Hope that, in the future, you will be able to give another precious pet a wonderful, loving home with you and your dear family.
Those four little ducklings are so cute! So happy that you live where you do and are able to give all these pets a wonderful home!
The Canada Geese have just returned and our lake still has 4 ft. of ice on it! The weather has just started to warm up here. They come up to our yard during the day and enjoy the sun. We love to watch them! We don’t even have any green grass for them yet as there are still snowdrifts in our front yard by the lake.
Have a wonderful weekend with your family. Thanks for sharing with us, Laura! Blessings!
HI Mary-ann- thanks for always leaving such sweet comments. Snow drifts!! when does it start to feel like spring up there? hopefully soon. have a lovely week ahead.
sorry to hear about the loss of your beautiful big gentle giant. what a fabulous kitchen transformation. and as for your baby duckling, soooooo cute!
thanks Ivory. cute but messy lil things.
I’m so sorry about Bear, Laura—and he really looked like a big black bear! When I’m at the lake alone, I want a big four legged dog, too. My 28 lb. Rat Terrier has that good bark and snarl, so I’m good for now. I read about your duckings and pond on IG! How cool! I’d love to be living this sort of country life full time.
I really thought your white cabinets were new. You did a great job. I love the style of your decor…pared down, cozy, and warm. Just perfect!
Jane
Thanks so much jane. when bear barked I listened. the other dogs bark at anything but bear was definitely my protector. at some point we will get another dog to protect the family. hope you had a lovely weekend.
Hi Laura, Lilly, loves those ducks. Hope you get them situated, I can imagine the poop makes you crazy.
Hope everyone is healing from the loss of Bear
Cindy
thanks cindy. Duck poop is so gross….but lily does love those ducks. This weekend we worked on a totally enclosed area with a small pond for them to roam …and poop freely. hope you had a nice weekend. looks like it is finally feeling like spring in your neck of the woods.
