Creating cozy inside your home when it’s cold outside
Creating cozy inside your home when it’s cold outside. Easy ways to instantly warm up your space.
I’m sure I am not alone when I tell you that it’s colder then usual outside.Yikes. Like really cold. So today’s post is quite timely. Creating cozy inside your home when it’s cold outside.
Welcome to the monthly Cozy Living series. If you missed last month’s hot cocoa recipe you can catch it here. This monthly series is so inspiring to me. I love to see the various ways others make their homes and lives more cozy and memorable. I hope it inspires you to do the same in your own home. All of the links to the other bloggers will be below. Lit Candles
Nothing evokes cozy and warmth in your space then some lit candles. I like to group several candles on a small tray or plate that way any spilled wax won’t get all over. Yes, I’m old fashioned and prefer a real candle. Candles add such tranquility and calm to a space. And on the occasional date night at home, romance.
Fire
If you are lucky enough to have a fireplace, you can create instant cozy and warmth to your space. If not, candles will suffice as well. Indoors or outdoors a roaring fire will create an atmosphere of comfort. We have a fire going in the house just about every day during the winter. It not only serves as a heat source but also a cozy pleasure.
Cozy Throws and Pillows
We are a family of cuddlers. An ample supply of pillows and throws in the room are a must. When people walk into this space, I want it to say that it is inviting. Nothing gives me more joy then my friends to feel so comfortable when they come over and get all comfy on the couch with a blanket….like they live here. Baskets store additional blankets and pillows.
Appreciating the simple things
What I love the most about winter time is the chance for my family to gather and creating joy around the simple things in life. With technology aside, we pull out the books, games and puzzles and spend the afternoon or evening just playing, reading and enjoying each others company. A favorite game around here is the electronic version of monopoly. No need to keep track of anything. The game does that for you. I always did make the worse banker.
I believe that an important component of a cozy home especially when it’s cold outside is relaxation. Often times people like me that always have to be doing something, find this hard to do. But its okay to give yourself the gift to just be and do nothing but relax. It’s okay to stay in your jammies all day and into the evening if you want, wrapped in a blanket. I have a few times this winter, and it feels so good. Am I right? Besides we won’t tell.
When we spend less time outside due to the cold and lack of sunlight, sometimes a relaxed cozy home is what gets us through the cold winters…and has us counting down the days till Spring shows up.
