Duke Manor Farm Notables…. The farm, a Surprise party and a trip to Florida
Happy Saturday! I hope you had a good week despite the horrific event that happened earlier in the week. I have had to turn off the news as the situation is just too heavy to hear…and sad. My prayers are with the victims, the families, friends, community and for our nation.
Despite how the week ended, it started off pretty good. My kids and I took a road trip down to S. Florida. They were on Fall Break. So I loaded the car and decided to conquer my fear. I made the 11 hour journey (without my hubby) and 3 active kiddos. On our way down we stopped at my brothers farm in S.Georgia. He has a couple hundred acres of farm land, and it is beautiful. Just look at this road through the property.
Every couple of years they rotate the crops on the farm. This year it was peanuts and they just finished digging the plants the day before we got there. The plants will sit for a few days and then they will come back and get the nuts from the vines. The entire process is rather interesting , especially for someone who knew nothing about it. This is one of several fields of peanuts.
There are a few abandoned old barns on the property. I had flip flops on so I was reluctant to get any closer to this one. When the brush dies down, I may take a peek inside. #afraidofsnakes
My son had a blast climbing on his Uncles tractors and big machines. This was the highlight of his week.
After an over night visit we hit the road for S.Florida. The main purpose of the trip was to surprise my mom at her Surprise Birthday Party. Can you tell by the look on her face if she was surprised or not? This moment was the highlight of my week…my month…my year. My mom always has a way of finding things out. Always has…until the party. She had no idea.
The party was Sunday, so the kids and I hung out a few more days at my sisters house. Even though it rained every.single.day, we had a nice time hanging out with the family and just relaxing. Trust me, this is the place you want to be if it is raining in S.Florida. When I took this picture I was thinking about hubby at home taking care of all the critters….. and not feeling the slightest guilt.
Believe it or not we are still cleaning up some yard debris from the storm a few weeks ago in the back part of the farm. So that’s how we will spend the weekend….before the next storm rolls through later on Sunday. Next week I have a fun Halloween project to share, as well as some changes I have made to the Dining Room for Fall. I hope you will come back to see what I am up to. In the meantime click here to see more of my fall ideas and inspiration.
I hope you enjoyed this weeks Duke Manor Farm Notables…. the farm, a Surprise party and a trip to Florida. Have a great weekend!
