Create warmth in a white kitchen using cutting boards

I love my white kitchen, but at times it can seem cold and drab. Particularly on a dreary winter day.  Since we use cutting boards quite a bit in the kitchen for cutting and for serving, I typically leave them out and lean them against a cabinet in the corner. I recently got this new teak cutting board and decided it was to pretty to not have out in the center of the kitchen. I also switched out the old over sized clock for this  one.

I  love the way cutting boards add additional texture and color to warm up the kitchen, particularly a white one. Since my back splash is also white  it adds some additional contrast and interest, instead of a just a white background. Besides, I like the added convenience of having them close at hand when I need them.

By the way, my back splash use to be brown stone that I painted white and it still looks amazing. You can read more about that and my tips for painting a back splash here.

Not to digress off the cutting board topic, but this was a picture of my kitchen before I painted the cabinets and back splash. Wowza, a lot different.

Today you can find cutting boards in a variety of shapes, sizes and materials. This board will probably be my next purchase because I love the mix of materials with the stone and wood.  I am hoping that my valentine is reading this.  I gathered up some of my favorite boards that also come in different price points , so you can find the perfect one or one’s for your kitchen. affiliate links used

  1. I so agree. Although my kitchen is not white, my cutting/bread boards are always on display and ready for action. I have found some lovely options on Etsy, my favorites of which are made by a woman on the east Canadian coast. They are truly works of art. One can never have too many, and I really like the one you’ve chosen as your next purchase. Very unique!

  2. I LOVE cutting boards. I have an old one with a chalk board on its reverse side. I write a message everyday on it. Love the round ones but I don’t own one yet.

  3. Hey Laura…..just wanted to ask how your painted cabinets are holding up? And what was your method and paint choice that you used? Such a beautiful transformation!
And I to love cutting boards! The more the merrier 🙂 I especially love some of the antique boards I have found, I don’t use the antique boards as often, but enjoy their beauty!
    Thanks!

  4. I knew you had painted your kitchen, but I can not believe how drastic the transformation was! I so badly wanted white painted kitchen cabinets when we built our home, but they were more than our solid cherry cabinets! I so hope to be able to convince my husband to let me paint them…You have an amazing kitchen, Laura, and the cutting boards looks marvelous in there!

  5. I love your tile as it is now and the cutting boards add a nice warmth and feeling of comfort. It’s so cool that you were able to paint the tile!

  6. I love having cutting boards out too. Yours looks fabulous. I don’t think I remember your kitchen before you painted it, but wow, what a difference.

  7. I love cutting boards and old rolling pins. I just do not know how to display them so my kitchen counter/wall do not look clutter. My hubby told me I know longer allowed to buy anymore. 😜😜
