The essentials for planning the perfect picnic
Now that the weather is just about right, it’s time to start picnic season.I have put together my list of the essentials for planning the perfect picnic for your upcoming outing. The perfect time to sit back, chill out and enjoy time with friends and family. We are big picnic people around Duke Manor Farm and really enjoy eating and being outside this time of the year, on a blanket, somewhere on the property. I recently hosted an afternoon picnic in my garden for a few girlfriends.
Location
Backyard, park, pasture or beach….you decide. Keep in mind, that your location may depend on how much stuff you have to cart to your picnic site. Today there are plenty of options with plates and cups to reduce the weight in your picnic basket as well carts and chairs that provide perfect storage solutions for your picnic wares.
What to serve
Do you want to go simple or fancy? Picnic food options are endless. What ever you decide make sure that the snacks and the foods that you choose are easy to pack and easy to eat. Some simple options are sandwiches, fruits, wraps, and quiches. Keep in mind that to be safe and avoid any health issue, most foods shouldn’t sit outdoors for more than 1 hour, so have your cooler ready to store the foods that you are not eating.
What to pack
Here’s a few items to include in your picnic basket or cooler.
Blanket or camp chairs to sit on
Sunscreen
Bug spray
Trash bag
Tablecloth
Napkins
Outdoor dinnerware, plates and cups
Plastic silverware
Bottled water ( tip- freeze overnight and use as an ice pack)
Serving wine, don’t forget the corkscrew
Most important thing to remember, is to enjoy yourself and the company of others. I hope the essentials for planning the perfect picnic will help you as your plan your upcoming outing.

Well, dang I guess my invitation got lost in the mail. ha ha… That all looks fancy smancy to me. I wish my hubby liked to picnic. I do good to get him to eat outside. He prefers inside.
You seem to have a pretty good list for a picnic……I always have a roll of paper towels and sanitizing wipes. Oh, and one of those battery operated fans!….Such a beautiful picnic you have there Laura!…
I’ve been longing for warmer days and they’ve finally arrived here in Virginia. I too love to eat outside with family and friends. Ahh … fresh fruit, salads, grilling on the porch. I’m ready for summer! Thank you for the inspiration and ideas 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend.
This is so pretty! I love the whole arrangement! I am planning a party this weekend, but there is rain in the forcast! I have the string lights and all. Cross the fingers I get dry weather tomorrow.
Have a good one!
