Bathing Suit Shopping….when you’re 50
Not the most exciting thing I have done all week but necessary with upcoming beach trips and sitting poolside.
Swimwear for women over 50
Truth of the matter is, I have never been a fan of shopping for swimwear, regardless of my age. But bathing suit shopping when you’re 50, seems is a whole different experience then when you are in your 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. Just ask my newly 50 self…… while in the dressing room this week!
Chances are you are going to be 50 one day or you already are 50. Perhaps you are a mermaid and don’t require a bathing suit, but secretly wish you could wear one. If one of these applies to you, this post is for you. Â
Full disclosure, I have always loathed shopping for swimsuits regardless of my age or how I was feeling about my body….regardless of the day.  . But if I plan on swimming with the kids in the pool, or vacationing to the beach, I needed to get over it. So I do. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t put some thought into what the best swimsuit choices are for my 50 year old, curvy body. And although I don’t quite look like the models wearing these suits, I did find some bathing suits that will look equally as good on my own body…..for 50 or quite frankly any age. Click the image to shop the suit.
You can still look like a hot mama and a mom in a stylish one piece.
Have fun with cute checks or classic stripes
Regardless of your age, go for a pop of color
If you want a bit more coverage try a swim dress or swim shirt
Most important thing to remember as you are bathing suit shopping….when you’re 50 or any age ….. and looking in a store mirror that always seems to make your body look a little bit smaller then the mirror in your closet at home, is that you are only this age with this one body today, so wear the suit that makes you feel the best and good about yourself. Regardless of your curves and those imperfections only you see….you are going to look amazing!
The good news….I was successful that day in the dressing room and ended up with a suit.
PS- am i right about the mirrors or what?
PPS- Did you see my Essentials for the perfect picnic here earlier this week.

I think you bought that fabulous gray one at the top of the list. It looks fabulous.
Hey Marty. I imagine as hot as it is in Arizona you have a drawer full of bathing suits.
I have always thought there are “trick” mirrors in the dressing room. If you think it is bad at age 50, wait until you are 70!!
I love the beach and I have let the bathing suit thing go long ago. The ship has sailed and I have accepted it.
oh come on. get that suit out. you deserve to enjoy the water too! 🙂 Have a great weekend!
The suits are nice…but seriously, not ALL 50+ women are as thin as the models. The majority of us have a “little” belly after having children & going through life changes. Let’s see some bathing suits for REAL women 50+. Thank you!
well coming from another ‘real’ women …..i like the suits, one piece of course, and yes my body does look a bit different then the models. Hope you have a nice weekend!
ps- what would be nice is if the retailers included real women in their ads. dont you think?
Of all times for you to bring up bathing suits and turning 50! lol. I have been meeting 3 of my high school friends for lunch for the past 32 years until we moved out of state almost 6 years ago :(. My husband and I decided to vacation at the beach this year, even tho traveling is very hard for me as I have several disabilities now. Anyway, my 3 friends who also turn 50 this year are meeting us there for part of our trip!! Bathing suit pressure, nah! We were all cheerleaders together, lol.
I hope I have as much luck as you did and wether you got your suit at Target or Goodwill, I will always follow your blog because I love it~period!
Thanks for your comment Candy. How fun to be meeting up with your pals after all these years. I have some friends like that as well. it’s always fun to catch up and talk about the memories. Have fun!
Ugh! I’ve been avoiding the bathing suit shopping. We don’t have a pool, so I can postpone this dreaded task until a month or so …
Love that ruched (sp?) one up top though. Will have to check it out!
surprisingly, cause I usually have to try on no less then 35 suits at a time that was the 2nd one i tried on and it looked decent. we are meeting my husbands family next month in Arkansas for a wedding and I didn’t want to scare any one so I had to get a new suit. 🙂
Target is off limits to our family.
I love the top 2! Yep, pretty much after I had children, I’ve dreaded shopping for a bathing suit:D
The bathing suits are pretty. Why not show them on attractive 50 year old models though? Especially when your post is titled Bathing Suit Shopping When You Are 50…
Great post!!! Would you be more likely to buy a bathing suit being worn by more age appropriate models? Thanks!!
