Thanksgiving Mantel Idea for the family
Here’s a Thanksgiving Mantel Idea for the family. A few years ago, when the kids were old enough to write, I began a tradition of our ‘Thankful Blessings’. Every day for a month leading up to Thanksgiving, my children will write down one thing that they are thankful for. There’s no rules or guidelines. They write what’s in their hearts. They write what they want… mom, dad, their animals, toys, food, God…..and video games.
On Thanksgiving Day when the family is sitting around the dinner table, we will each read the blessing to each other and talk about it. It’s our special family tradition, one where we can express to one another the many blessings that have enriched our lives and family.
Because it is something that I do every year, the Thankful garland, strung with the most precious blessings, can either be found on the kitchen mantel or the mantel over the fireplace. This year, it’s the kitchen. You can see last years Thankful garland here.
Fall Mantel Decorating Ideas
In the spirit of simplicity, I added a few small vases with some seasonal flowers along with my ‘Be Grateful’ sign to tie it all together (although the Thankful leaves would have been enough).
Honestly, even without the pretty flowers randomly scattered on the mantel with the beautiful message on the sign as a backdrop, this is probably one of my favorite mantels…and traditions.
What are some of your Thanksgiving traditions?
Maybe the Thankful leaves garland can be a new one for you and your family.
Speaking of Grateful….. I am so grateful to know the ladies I team up with every month. They all inspire me with their creativity, talent and heart. This month we are teaming up to bring you with the same space three ways. You can click here to see the mantel last month.

for you
We do thankful leaves every year too, but I’ve never thought of stringing them as a garland. What a lovely idea!
Thanks! I like how the kids can see them all through the month.
so pretty! i love the fresh flowers!
thanks cassie!
Such a beautiful garland and tradition!!
why thank you!
I love that sweet garland idea. This area in your kitchen is such fun to see you decorate. It all looks so fresh against the white!
Big difference from years past, although between you and me, the white is really hard to keep up with with kids that want to touch every stinkin space in the kitchen with dirty little paws!
What a beautiful post, Laura! I LOVE your Thanksgiving tradition. Now that my youngest is starting to write, I’d love to start this! XO
Love your thankful garland tradition!!! 🙂
