Five Last Minute Table Tips for Thanksgiving
Is the turkey thawing? Are the pies made? Or, are you thinking nothing about dinner and everything about the Black Friday sales? Although I won’t be hosting a crowd tomorrow, more like my own tribe of 5, I put together some of my favorite last minute table tips that have done well for me in years past…and might just help you with your Thanksgiving table.
Five last minute table tips
Tip 1– Looking for a table cloth but can’t find one….. try looking in the linen closet for a blanket, sheet or curtain panel. Yes, curtain panel. Better yet, if you have some brown craft paper and a stencil, go ahead and make something amazing like the one I did here. Then toss it into the garbage when dinner is over.
Tip 2– It’s okay to mix and match your plates and glasses. Nobody will notice and if they do, who cares. Besides they may think it’s intentional. And while you are at it, go ahead and use cute paper napkins…. it’s better then handing them a roll of paper towels.
Tip 3- Need a centerpiece idea? How about my 5 step centerpiece that will take you less then five minutes to put together. No access to flowers? Try a runner of fruit and veggies in the center of your table …candles optional. Another idea that I absolutely love doing, is scattering our family thankful leaves around the table.
Tip 4 – Try not to stress about what your serving. No offense, you are an amazing cook, but your guests are coming to see you….and watch the football game afterwards. Right about half time, they will probably forget about your delicious sweet potatoes with homemade marshmallow swirl anyways.
Tip 5- Forgot about the dessert? Add a bit of ‘homemade touch’ to your store bought desserts with a dollop or two of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top of a pumpkin pie. Or try a bit of cranberry sauce on top of a cheesecake. It’s all yum. Personally, desserts are my favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal. What about you? I hope my five last minute table tips for Thanksgiving will help you on turkey day.
Most importantly, Thanksgiving is a day to slow down from our busy lives. A time to gather our family and our friends around our table. A day to give thanks for our many blessings and enjoy a bounty of good food….and a pretty table!
Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
