Getting Spooky at Duke Manor Farm

I don’t do spooky very well or very much ….I try….but spooky is just not my thing.

A couple of years back I did this spooky in my entry way and I was so spooked I did nothing since then, well since this weekend when the kids wanted to know if we were ever going to decorate for Halloween. ( which I wasn’t unless they asked)  I was convinced that the little orange pumpkin on the mantel here was  enough for them. I was wrong.

I actually did this spooky entrance that same year. By the way, black birds still creep me out!

So I dragged out my little bag of spook, and decorated the butlers pantry.  I hope you are not frightened by these images…after all they are intended to spook you.

The spook factor really gets turned up, when the lights go down and you see a a cast of orange glow around the kitchen…more importantly the kids are happy that the house has now been decorated for Halloween and the pressure is off the lil orange pumpkin on the mantel.

Do you decorate for Halloween or does a bowl full of candy suffice?

  1. I’ve always decorated a little for Halloween, but not as much as you have. There have been hay bales and corn shucks in the front yard and pumpkins galore – mums and jack-o-lanterns. This year I have a pumpkin topiary beside the front door and a wreath with a spider web and huge spiders on it. Inside I have a vignette on the entertainment center – a plate with books about spells and curses and “how to take care of your broom” and a skull, an old black vase w/a white pumpkin, and a bottle of “Bat Blood.” There is a printable of a ghost on the other side with some acorns and leaves. I have placed pumpkins – some decoupaged and others just plain or glittered – all over the house including the bathroom.

  2. Even though you are not a fan of “spook” you so gladly and creatively go about spookifying the house for the kids…you did a great job…love it, and I am sure the kiddos are ever so loving what their talented mom did for them….that’s love for sure!

  3. Oh…I love everything. Bravo for going that extra mile for you kids. I did, too, and had the greatest parties for the kids and parents after all the trick or treating…good memories! Now I just decorate for fall but I go out of my way doing up cute little bags of goodies for all the little trick or treaters. My part in the BIG day! 🙂

  4. Hi Laura, I don’t Decorate for Halloween. Truth, I’ve never liked it even as a kid. It’s probably the scare factor. I’m not into scary at all. Your scary the amount I can deal with. Hope your trip is fun
