How to see time differently….with a new shade

Hard to imagine that my slow and easy summer bliss will be coming to an end in just a few short weeks. I have enjoyed the heck out of every second with my kids, and feel so incredibly blessed to be able to spend this precious time with them.

One thing that I told myself at the start of the summer was that the kids and all things summer come first, the house and projects……
after that. Hence the slower then normal output of stuff that you typically see me working on. However, I did manage to pick up a paint brush and work on my one and only project of the summer. Well actually two, if you count the basket. insert  a woot woot.

I picked up this clock down in Atlanta almost two years ago, with the intention to add some hands to it and actually be able to know what time it is. Welllllll….. it’s no wonder we’re always late around here.

I decided to punch it up a bit and change blues using a color called Tidalwater from SW. It is such a soft and pretty shade of blue and works perfectly in my breakfast area.
I also added a layer of the blue to the bottom of the basket using some painters tape to create a somewhat straight line around the basket. When I pulled the tape off, I used a small brush to even things out. I like the added color on the basket.

I threw some white on the numbers, but honestly the kids were either fussing with each other, the puppy pooped on the floor or I went for a swim so I stopped and never finished. Once they go back to school, I’ll go back and do a second coat.

or, I can just sit around and dream about this wonderful summer, where time stood still…..thanks to a clock with no hands.

  1. it's such a wonderful shade of blue, who needs hands? Being with the kids is your number one project of the summer. I'd love to just have a week with my two girlies!

  2. Love the color you put on that clock and basket! It looks fabulous:) so glad I'm not the only one that has a hard time getting projects done- and my kids are grown! Lol!

  3. The clock looks great in that spot. I like how big it is.

I'm proud of you for spending time with your little ones. I miss those days. 🙂

  4. I can only imagine how hard it would be to concentrate with 3 kids and a puppy running around. I think the clock looks great! I bet it will feel so different after the kids go back to school.

  5. Love the color and great idea for the basket. So happy you have enjoyed your time with the kids. Time goes fast and the time with them is something you can't get back

  6. I love how the clock turned out and it's sort of cute without the hands! I like how the baskets echo your chairs. BTW—where did you get those chairs? I looked at the banana leaf chairs at Pier 1 and they were much more 'orangey' then they looked online. Then I was afraid to order them from anywhere online. Yours are the color I'm looking for.

It's nice to throw a few projects in here and there, even with the kids home. I think quality and quantity should come mixed in equal parts! ;-D

  7. I'm so glad you are enjoying those kids. They grow up so darn fast and poof they're gone. I remember when you bought that clock. The update looks nice regardless that you forgot to finish it.

  8. Love, love the color Laura!…the clock can wait for its 2nd coat….the kids will always remember how their mom put aside the chores and made certain they had a great summer….they grow up so darn fast….savor every moment, and I know you do!

  9. You said Bliss! We ordered our hands from Ebay because we needed the heavy duty kind and didn't want to spend an arm and a leg. Get it? Yuk yuk yuk. Anyway, they had other sizes and the hands came right to us, no excuse not to get them put on. Well we put them on the Christmas gift clock we made, and my set is under a chair lying in wait for the past 6 months.
