4th of July decor ideas for the table and the house
We are hosting a few friends this weekend for the 4th of July holiday. I wanted to share some 4th of July decor ideas for the table and the house. Since this summer has been about everything slow and easy, we are doing a low boil. If you are a Cajun, then you totally get this. If not, basically we will throw some shrimp, hot sausage, corn cobs, small red potatoes, onions and if we were really lucky to find any… craw fish, into a big pot, season with some Zatarains shrimp and crab boil and let it boil away.
My first experience eating craw fish was the first time that I met my husband’s entire family down in Lafayette La, all experienced craw fish eaters I must say. All 163 of them. It was more like 46 but it sure felt like it was a lot of eyes.. Not wanting to feel out, I followed the lead from others and ate my first and last craw fish. I think I was done when I was told to just to suck the head out. What !
Talk about getting initiated into the family. I wish the art of eating craw fish was as easy as some of the simple and festive decor that I put up for the week.
Like putting some dollar store flags in some existing frames that I have, with some fern clippings in small glass lanterns.
And not entirely sure how patriotic this is, but I borrowed my vintage Coca-Cola sign from the media room and put it on the other mantel for a splash of red.An iced cold coca cola seems to be the epotomie of a hot summer day….that or a cold beer, which I drink neither of.
I even got out some red and white pillows for the chairs and folded a blue throw and used it as table runner. Good thing I am equipped for napping…….
while everyone else around me eats their craw fish. There is an upside to a low boil though, the clean up. When it’s ready to eat, you basically throw everything on a table covered with paper and your guests just pick what they want. Ahhh, maybe I will like this craw fish thing after all.

Are you a craw fish eater? Come on over!
grateful
for long summer days
Sounds great! That is the best way to entertain…do something one pot and with prep you can do before hand that way you can actually enjoy the company. Everything looks just lovely. Enjoy!
I moved to New Orleans when I was 5 and left when I was 40. It is and always has been "home" and that includes eating crawfish 😉 However, gotta say….can't suck da heads!!! I do have my limits.
Love your post and all the patriotic decorations!
Looks like your already for the 4th….sounds like a great day is planned!! ENJOY!
No, I don't eat crawfish. Hey we have a couple in our pond. Come on over and catch them and you can cook them up! Love the framed flags.
That sounds like a fun party! I've been to a party before where they cooked that, except I didn't eat the crawfish. Eek! But, I know a lot of people love them. I love your decorations. Putting a flag in a frame was a neat idea. It's even protected from getting dirty over the stove.
I am not a crawfish eater. When they told me to suck the head out I was done. sounds like you will have a great party, though. xo Laura
Lost my comment. I wish m mantel was as simple and patriotic as yours…it would get lost on mine but I think I'll put some cut fern up there—I like greenery. I just need some restraint.
We went to a crawfish boil once, my husband's law partner was from New Orleans. The kids were having races with them in the alley before they met their demise. I did eat a few but honestly, I used to be a bit more brave…frog legs, snails, alligator bites. Now I have to admit that it's just not my thing. Burgers on the grill Saturday for 30 of our closest!!

Your home is beautifully set for a grand 4th of July Low Country Boil….Love the simplicity of the mantel that sends such a great message of the beauty of our flag. Long may she wave…
Enjoy your celebration and I can assure you, there would be NO crawfish eating from this gal!

looks great, laura! i love the shelf in the kitchen!
Yeah- I have tried it TWICE and I just can't get into crawfish either. I think you either LOVE it or you HATE it. I would fit into the second category. lol
Hope you have a wonderful Fourth there. I know you will….crawdads and all! xo Diana
What time should I arrive? I used to have a huge vintage Coke sign. (I don't drink it either) Think my first ex got that one. Your place looks fantastic. Have fun!
