Before I show you how to make a DIY faux wood fireplace screen, a little background on the fireplace that it will be used with.
It’s safe to say that the 20 foot floor to ceiling fireplace in our breakfast/kitchen was is the crown jewel in the room. When you walk in to the kitchen it’s the first thing you notice. This was a picture from about 13 years ago when we were getting ready to move in.
Over the years we have enjoyed many wonderful fires and how it created a warm and inviting spot until a few years ago when the flue caught on fire due to accumulated soot. Sadly, it’s not been used since then. You can read more about that here. With a hefty price tag to repair, we have put this on the list of “someday projects” right behind college tuition for 3 kids and installing a pool in the backyard. In the meantime we can enjoy the heat that the wood burning fireplace in the family room gives off.
It’s kinda been like an out of sight, out of mind moment until you look at this unattractive black hole. Suddenly, it was no longer the “jewel” it once was, until I spotted this faux wood fabric at IKEA and made a firescreen.
Supplies needed for DIY faux wood fireplace screen
THat looks really good! I'm sorry that you had a flue fire, those are scary. But…looks like you made a pretty good thing out of it. Hmmmm…choosing between a fireplace and a backyard pool would be a tough choice for me.
That is the coolest thing ever. You are one smart cookie.
Those darn college tuitions. Laura, that firescreen came out beautiful. What a great idea!
Now that is a super creative idea!…Those fireplace fires are so scary…we had one too in one of our former houses. I would opt for the pool too…well behind the college educations!…Stay warm with that wood burning stove!…
I LOVE IT!! It's FREEZING here in NY…stay warm!!
oh i love that! so simple, too! you are speaking my language.
So clever! I love it! I have been thinking of making a wood screen like this, but knew it would be really heavy and not sure how I would keep it standing up. I hope my Ikea has this fabric in stock!
So cool! What a clever idea! And now your kids don't have to go to community college …
🙂 Linda
I love this idea, what a great find in the fabric. That really is a fabulous fireplace.
Great alternative in the meantime. It looks fabulous!
I love it! I think it looks good in your big rustic stone fireplace. it wouldn't look as good in a fancy formal fireplace. Great idea!
Very clever. It's very cold here
Cindy

Laura this is GENIUS!! You knocked it out of the park friend!
Oh. My. Gosh! I was just thinking how I might be able to DIY this look (since actually cutting wood is out of the question for me) for our seldom used fireplace. Thanks for this great tutorial!
