Stairway to Brightness
I think it is safe to say that my school aged children will not be reverting back to crawling …… at least I hope not. Nor, am I expecting anymore young crawlers (meaning no more babies for me) around the house anytime in the near future, so….. it’s time to take the baby gate down. Who know’s why we left it up this long.
We custom made the gate 8 years ago when I had my first child because I could not find a gate wide or sturdy enough to fit across the top of the stairs.
After the gate was down, I also realized that after 12 years of wear and tear the stairs needed some TLC.
The wrought iron spindles that were black were painted in a semi-gloss white, by hand…..all 42 of them.
And while my paint was out, I freshened up the risers in white too.
I love the way the white works so much better with my floor and wall coloring.
Now if only those darn dust bunnies would go away!
PS- do you have something like ‘my gate’ that needs to come down in your house, but it hasn’t for some unknown reason?
Since the hubs ripped up all the carpet and replaced with Pergo laminate, I have discovered that I don't have dust bunnies…..I have dust HOGS! Yes, with two huge dogs, one a German Shepard, the other a Lab shedding prodigious amounts of fur I have a problem. Love the flooring, hate the hogs. If I could just get them to sit still while I vacuum them….
I'm looking around my house to see what I need to remove, but I'll be afraid. About the time we took our gate down the caboose came along. Then, shortly after that grand kids started to arrive. Now I am wondering if we need to make it a permanent fixture till we move to the old folks home.
We have a gate up too. This is to keep our two pit bulls safe from visitors. They are loving and sweet dogs but everyone is afraid of them. If people only knew they are afraid of our two cats.
Yep, Santa brought me some beautiful prints last year that needed to be framed & they sat in the living room till just last week when we finally "got around" to taking them to the framers. I'm sure that there are more "baby gates" around our house that need to be dealt with!
My grands have stairs but now Connor man can unlock the gate and climb up and down. Yikes! Still scares me to death.
Wow…what a great idea to paint the black iron spindles!…the staircase looks beautiful…I think I may have left the baby gate up for a while too….as I am such a "worry wart" !!!
No baby gates around here…hasn't been for many years. 🙂 Your painting looks awesome ~ the white looks so bright and clean. No, I'm not referring to the dust bunnies ~ LOL A fresh paint job always makes a positive difference.

Your spindles look pretty in white. I have to look twice to realize that they're iron now.
Laura, what a job painting all those spindles, can't even imagine. By the middle I would have said, Honey….., LOL. I'm not patient enough. At the old house we kept our puppy gates up and the pups were trained in a month. They have only gone in the house once since 10 weeks old. We were so stupid

It looks so pretty and fresh!
How did you keep white paint from dripping on your beautiful floor?
I am soooo messy.
