Before I moved onto our farm, I had no idea what my green thumb was capable of… nor did I know it existed.
Flowers and vegetables were store bought each week, I was more concerned with my freshly done manicure then getting my hands dirty and I had no earthly idea what the difference between a perennial and an annual was. Email me if you don’t, and I will tell you.
Then we built a home here, in the country, on a dirt road in the middle of no where. Where we have plenty of land, a tractor named Bubba, and… lots of dirt. And so with visions of beautiful flowering blooms in my head, we started digging and built my very first garden.
Initially it was going to be a cutting garden, but the tractor kept on digging and digging and soon I realized that this would be a place where I can not only cut from but also sit and enjoy.
Over the years, my garden has evolved and grown into what was once a surface of red Georgia clay with my outline of a path meandering through the future flowers, into the exact vision that I had in my head so many years ago… and so much more.
And along that meandering pathway there is one plant that has stayed loyal and faithful, growing and coming back each year. My hydrangeas.
I actually have a few varieties of hydrangeas currently in my garden in blue and pink but am pretty excited about a new plant that I will be putting in the garden this summer called BloomStruck from the Endless Summer® Collection. BloomStruck hydrangeas have sturdy red stems to hold those big beautiful blooms, which is perfectif I choose not to cut them, they will provide blooms all summer because they re-bloom, and are perfect for my garden cause they prefer morning sun and the afternoon shade. The best part…..
they are easy to grow and require very little maintenance and time. That’s my kind of gardening!
And the bonus is… being able to cut the blooms all season and bring them in house…
to enjoy. Which was also a part of my original vision. But just more beautiful. Did you know soil pH really does dictate bloom color….just ask my hydrangeas, they will tell you.
And since I am just the girl who got on her tractor years ago and started digging in the dirt, afraid to ruin her freshly manicured nails, you can find more details about the Endless Summer® Collection from the professionals here.

Hi Laura, my name is Lorrie but I do not have a blog, I don't have Twitter, FaceBook or any other social media account. I just like to snoop around blogland to get inspired. Your blog is one of my favorites and I was especially excited today when you said to send you an email if we don't know the difference between perennial and annual plants. That's me! I continuously get conflicting information when I ask this question. I hope you can help me. Thanks for your beautiful blog, I look forward to seeing it almost daily.
Lorrie
I love so many flowers–but Daisies, Hydrangeas and Lilacs are some of my many favorites…
Blushing Bride is my favorite and hydrangeas are my favorite flower. The soil in my yard is so hard and just will not grow a thing. I have tried and tried. I guess if I had a tiller maybe. My mother's garden was beautiful. I don't know why she never grew hydrangeas.
Hydrangeas are right up there as far as flowers go! Whether they are fresh or dried…they are gorgeous! Thanks for the opportunity! 😉
Hi Laura, My favorite is the Hydrangeas…It was my mother's favorite, she passed away back in December so everytime I see a Hydrangea it reminds me of my mom. I always make sure if we put flowers in their church for Mother's day, Birthdays or Anniversary…it has a Hydrangea in it so I can plant it in my yard, my sister's yard or my Dad's yard. 🙂
I absolutely love tulips!
Hydrangeas, great smelling roses, orchids, and I wish I lived up north, because my yard would be full of wonderful lilacs.
So fun to see the progression of your garden over the years!! Hmmm, favorite flower (I do love hydrangeas). I adore sweet peas! I have just planted two long beds with them and can't wait for a fragrant bouquet.
My favorite flowers are gardenia's, tuber rose and hydrangeas, the first two for their wonderful heady fragrance and hydrangeas for the beautiful long lasting flowers. I have three large ones at this time and one oak leaf and I plan on adding a couple more in the next couple weeks. Your garden is beautiful, and you have really worked hard. Hard work and patients always pays off in the garden.
Your property is like a gorgeous lush garden . . . beyond breathtaking!!!…I am still waiting for mine to bloom!
I don't know how to answer that! We have very little grass left in our yard. (so the money sure would come in handy… 🙂 I would say that it is whatever is blooming at the time or has intersting foliage or bark, etc. Not especially answering your question am I. But I just have to many favorites to pick just one!
Hydrangeas!!! I'm desperately trying to figure out how to grow them in my yard and refuse to give up! I'll be planting more this year. Again!
🙂 Linda
I am definitely planting hydrangeas this year. I also am planting sunflowers for the first time.
I love Echinacea and Larkspur. Although I decorate with red, blue and yellow. . .I just love the change to blue and pink in a little Delft vase.
I love Lilac's myself but they don't grow well in the south I'm told and my Mom & Grand daughter both loved the Hydrangeas. I recently bought a Bloomstruck Hydrangea to plant in their memory garden and it is just beautiful!
I had the most beautiful hydrangeas running along one side of my house, but what I love most are heirloom roses and very fragrant flowers, especially after a rain. My favorites are: Madame Hardy (an old garden rose), Madonna lily, and tuberose planted with lavender.
I love my knockout roses but love my hibiscus too!!
Hi Laura,
You sound just like me…loving flowers but always worried about the manicure! I love sunflowers, Hollyhocks (Zebrina is my fav…a dark purple and I have one in my yard right now if you are interested in seeing a picture), clematis, and especially bulbs like peony, tulips, daffodils, narcissus, and lily. Bulbs are great because they surprise you each year by coming back and here in California they are no work at all. No need to dig them up. But, my all time favorite is Hydrangea, I just have limited space on planting them because the deer eat the beautiful things as if they are candy!! Those silly creatures. Love your blog and would love the giveaway. Could use it to upgrade my website from a silly number that Weebly gave it to a real name. I am thinking , "Creating Giddiness!" What do you think? Are you giddy about flowers?
Love! Love all l flower in the south. I am a southern transplant to the midwest. There are a lot of things I love that do not survive our temps and zone 5. I do love all hydrangeas. Also, crepe myrtles, which dont survive here. Your garden(s) are beautiful. Thanks. sse6@juno.com
As you probably know, I have 8 varietals of hydrangea…but no Endless Summer (yet). My favorites are whatever's blooming at the time! (And we have blooming 6-7 months out of the year, here.)
I like Tulips, Hydrangeas and Lillies. kellywcu8888ATgmailDOTcom
My favorite flowers from the garden are roses they are so lovely and I enjoy them every year. heather hgtempaddy@hotmail.com
Laura your garden is AMAZING!!! Truly spectacular! Ok, so my favorite flowers from my garden are my lilacs with my snowball bush/tree coming in at a close second! 🙂
I love many flowers, but iris are special to me because my mother had a big bed of them when I was a little girl. Would love to try hydrangeas. My neighbor has them and they are gorgeous.

I LOVE that you named your tractor. I have a John Deere that I absolutely love, too. I call it Gertie. lol Your gardens are spectacular, Laura. Who would believe all you have accomplished there over the time you have been there? I love hydrangeas, too. We can only grow the green or white ones here -the others revert back on me. They are favorites of mine but so are peonies and roses. I think peonies remind me of blousy, overdressed ladies on their way to church. lol And I wonder where the kids get "it" from…..
Hope you have a wonderful week. It is raining here…..again….and cold…..again……xo Diana
I love hydrangeas, but my favorite flower in the world is the red carnation, Have a wonderful week on your tractor 🙂
I love hydrangeas….but for some reason I cannot grow one to save my life so I just drool over everyone elses! What I love most and does wonderful in my garden is clematis! A beautiful trailing perennial…it is my very favorite!
It is hard for me to choose but it would be between hydrangeas and roses!
It's a three way tie between tulips, peonies and hydrangeas. 🙂
LOVE LOVE LOVE! YOu certainly have a green thumb! Hydrangeas are my favorite, of course!!
I moved from New York to Virginia and now have a big garden. I'm in love with the Amaryllis, the bleeding hearts and hydrangeas!
I love the view of the water behind your house! I love hydrangeas too. I lost most of mine when we had our septic field line expanded. I have only one bush right now. Would love to win this giveaway to get more plants for our backyard!
Hydrangeas and gardenias are my favorites!
Hydrangeas and lilacs are my favorites!
Being from California originally I Love Love Love Bougainville but living in Texas I can't grow them due to the freezes we sometimes get :(. But since moving to the south I have a new appreciation for hydrangea and how you can change the color by tweaking the acidity of the soil chemistry in nature! Cool!
I learned what I can and cannot grow. I planted my first hydrangeas 2 years ago, and I'm hoping this is the year they really take off. The thistles seem to be doing fine so I'm hopeful.

I love hydrangeas too-so nice to see that you also appreciate them, as I don't see any posts about them anywhere. 🙁 I have 4 plants currently but need to get one more to replace one that died last year. I add a powder to their soil once a month to keep mine blue-I prefer the blue color to the pink, although the pink Is lovely too. I love hydrangeas old-fashioned look. Happy (spring) gardening! 🙂 Joanna in Ca.
I am so jealous! I absolutely, absolutely adore hydranges! My favorite flowers!!! You just can't grow them here in Chandler, AZ. Just too hot!
We have an apartment, so no garden, but I would love growing these! They're beautiful. I would get one of the blue.

I've always loved blue hydrangeas, but my favorites are Gerber daisies. Mostly because they're my husband's favorites and they look so cheery:)
i like roses!! i’ve never grown them but they are so gorgeous. I’ve always wanted to plant my own garden but I just dont know how to go about it. I need to go buy a book on this, but your post really encourages me!

I love Peonies!
I received two endless summer hydrangea plants from my three sons for Mother's Day. They are blue-mt boys favorite color. They are so beautiful !! Hydrangeas are by far my favorite flower. So pretty! I can't wait to try this new variety!!

I love sunflowers. Simple to grow, and big beautiful flowers. Plus, they attract all the birds. neyabenz(at)gmail(dot)com
My Grandmother's house had a huge hydrangea bush under her bedroom window. I think of her and the summer fun of running all over the property that seemed like a hidden country treasure right in the city. I long for that place now for me and my children. Thanks for always taking the time to reflect on beautiful things and reminding us to do so also. My favorite flower is the hydrangea and the memories that go with it.
I like tulips and roses.

My All time favorite flower is hydrangea…but I can't grow them very well where I live in the California high desert…it gets really dry and hot in the summer and freezes in the winter….so, I can have one on the patio in the summer, but I haven't been able to get one to make it through the winter. I've been thinking of rolling it into the garage before the first freeze and see if that works…what do you think?
It's hard to pick a favorite flower. I love the lilacs and hyacinths that bloom so early. Roses are beautiful and have delicious scents and tiger lilies remind me of my childhood home.
I just have a bit of a garden and I grow herbs. I volunteer at the Denver Botanic Gardens and enjoy all their flowers especially the roses. Thanks for the contest.

I've been thinking of rolling it into the garage before the first freeze and see if that works…what do you think?
My favorites are yellow roses and yellow tulips.

I love having the little tiny blossoms of white Alysum in my yard. Would kill for some great Hydrangeas though. 🙂

It is sooo hard to pick a favorite! I would have to say fragrant roses! especially pink!
I have 3 different types of roses in our yard. They're definitely my favorite type of flowers to have. (my email address is in my profile)
I love my Hippeastrum, Bearded Iris and Roses!
