DIY Dry Erase Board

Lately, I have been on a mission to create a Family Command Center to help with organizing family events and for the mounds and mounds of paperwork my children bring home from school each day.
Seriously…..lots of paper.

If you are a parent with a school aged child ( particularly the elementary years)  you totally get this and experience it daily. If your children are grown, you get it too and are probably sitting back chuckling at me, with a ‘ been there, done that’ kind of attitude.  Go ahead and chuckle….That’s quite okay…. I have a solution.

Part of my plan is to reduce clutter, while still staying on top of things and being efficient. For the record…..I dislike clutter, it makes me nutty….really nutty.

I spent about $7.50 on a pre-cut piece of dry erase board at the Home Depot and another $2.00 on 2 pieces of fence board that I created a frame with and painted. Less then $10 for organizational sanity!

Now when the kids come home from school, first thing I do is write any important reminders, dates and need to know’s on the new board ….
           then recycle the paper……
that will be used again for another sweet child……..
                         for another important reminder………
                                  sometime in the distant future.

Unless we all stop the paper….and make it a  Dry Erase Board society.
How do you respond to clutter?

  1. That's a great idea, Laura. We always had a big calendar going with things crossed out and added all over the thing. Drove me nuts sometimes, too! I didn't realize you could buy Dry Erase board like that and have it cut.
Congrats to you little Karate guy! xo Diana

  2. Clutter makes me twitchy. It's much easier not to have it now that the kids are grown and gone! I think I spent a lot of years twitching!! Glad you found a solution to yours!
