‘Home Away From Home’ Den Tour
On my last trip to South. Florida recently, I was able to make some minor updates to my ‘Home Away From Home’ den at my sisters house. It’s the place that we camp out every time we are visiting and since comfort means everything to my sister when we are there, I generally have carte blanche to make sure that this room feels just like home. Thank you sister!
I just love this space. It evokes such an airy feeling with it’s white slip covered sofa’s and rattan furniture. The slip covered sofa’s from Rooms To Go are perfect in this room and provide me with piece of mind should one of the kids spill something while watching tv.
On my last trip down to Florida I found this table on the curb and painted it to introduce some color into the space. You can read about that transformation here. This is what that corner looked like prior to the change.
The chunky wood lamp and covered table was just to heavy for this space. The new table and clear lamp base from Home Goods that I replaced it with, makes more sense for this corner. Another change that I made across the room, was adding a large clock on the wall. I painted it the same color as the table to carry the color across the room. You can see more about that here.
Since the furniture is slightly over sized, the room is not heavily accessorized which is great for three curious kids in someone else’s house. Besides, I don’t have to keep repeating ” don’t touch”, “put that down”, “leave that alone”. You know what I mean, right?
TV console, table and chairs from a local shop in West Palm Beach, Florida and art work from Ballards.
It’s such a great room and perfect for those family visits in fact….. maybe now would be a good time to tell my sister that we are moving in? Not really…I wish.
Grateful for~
Awesome first day of school for my kids.

Perfect space for hanging out, Laura! I love that you rescued that table and painted it such a fun color … adds the perfect splash! And, I love her wicker chairs (reminds me of the ones I have from World Market … is that where she got them?

This is such a great space, Laura. I love how warm it feels. The color you brought in with the green table is beautiful. It was so nice to meet you at Haven. I wish I could have sent more time talking to you.

Just saw Kari Ann's post o your BEAUTIFUL home and had to say thank you for allowing her to share it all.
Very pretty room, Laura – I love how you lightened it up. I'm sure your sister is very happy with your touches!
What a beautiful space! If you don't mind sharing, what is the name of the paint on the walls? It's such a soft, pretty color.
I am happy to find your distinguished way of writing the post. Now you make it easy for me to understand and implement the concept. Thank you for the post.
