Keep it cozy

Before you start talking local high school football, what we are growing in the garden next year and the buzz about a new Walmart coming to the next town over, make your porch a cozy place to sit. Keep some blankets out for chilly days and nights.Β

Keep it simple

The use of mums, corn stalks and pumpkins keeps the decor down to a minimum, while still giving that fall feeling on the porch. Don’t over due it. Fall is about simplicity and enjoying what nature provides us.

Use what you have

Other then the mums, I used everything I had around to decorate to the porch. The corn stalks were from the garden that I tied in a bunch with heavy duty gauge wire. I then used some ribbon to tie a pretty bow around the stalk. I scattered some leaves in between the stalks.

  1. Wow, just gorgeous Laura! Some times I wish I was way out in the country where I could find my own grapevine to twist into a wreath…so I just pretend I am. I love that I can hear your actual voice now when I read your post!

  2. Closest store is 32 miles? How nice to get free pumpkins. Still haven't bought any. We made our own grapevine wreathes, too out of vines in the back several years ago. Your porch looks great. I need to go to Walmart and buy some pumpkins and mums.

  3. Laura, thanks for the kind words. Inspiration??? are you kidding me with this porch??? You have 3 small ones and have the time to do all this?? Thanks, but I will stick to my measly furniture painting! lol

  4. Laura…your porch is truly a magnificent Southern Porch…I can just hear the crickets now … as you sit there in the evening talking about your local football teams and sipping that "warm drink"… How nice to have a neighbor with beautiful pumpkins and your very own grapevine…now, only if you had a cotton field then all would be perfect!!….Love all of your beautiful fall decor!

  5. Great post and beautiful porch! You are correct we are outside all the time…swinging on the front porch or gathered around the table eating dinner on the back porch! How can you not with all this beautiful South around us πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing.

  7. I would so love to sit on your front porch and have a warm drink with you! We had a great front porch at the old house but NO PORCH here:( That is maybe the only thing I miss. That is great to get free pumpkins and grapevine. But 32 miles to the grocery store would make me crazy:):) XO, Pinky
