How to refurbish your old Chaise Loungers
I cringe when I see old patio furniture sitting near a dumpster. Tossed to the curb. What was once well loved outdoor patio furniture now is filled with holes, tears and covered in rust. People thought they had no other option then to just throw it away and buy something new. Wrong, so wrong. There are options and what I just want to tell you is, it is actually quite easy and very inexpensive to recover your old chaise lounge chairs. So, today I am going to save you a trip to the outdoor patio furniture store and all that money in your pocket,(your welcome) and show you how easy it is to recover your old chaise lounge chairs.
Steps to recover your old chaise lounge chairs
Step 1
Find some outdoor fabric to use. I bought some Sunbrella fabric (about 2 yards) at local craft store but you can find other options here.
Step 2
You will need to disassemble the chairs to remove the seat and back material. Use the old material as your pattern to cut your replacement fabric.
Step 3
When sewing the edges of your fabric, allow 1 inch ( or enough space) for the support brace from the frame of the chair to fit in your seam.
Awesomeness!

Your lounges look prettier than they did before, love that fabric, so cheery. I'm a fan of stripes so ignore my opinion if you need to. Don't know how you figured out how to fix those up but you sure are a clever girl.
You saved them! Great job! Love your fabric choice.
The chairs look so much better than they did in their original state!
Those look SO great! I never put much thought into jazzing up our lounge chairs, but you have inspired me!
They look even better then the original. That is one of the best redo's I've seen in a long time. Great job!
Gee whiz!! Is there ANYTHING you can't do??! I'm so impressed! They look amazing, Laura!
xo Heidi

Absolutely amazing! I love the fabric what a great project! Megan
Brilliant! Seriously. Brilliant! I'm so impressed …
🙂

Great idea! I think my chairs may be made the same way, I hope. They aren't ripping yet, but the AZ summer sun really makes them look shabby, & not in a "shabby chic" kind of way! Beautiful fabric you chose!
Darned if you didn't pull it off! Yep, I'd have tossed them. Guess it takes a true artist to see through the holes and beyond!
Brenda
You just save yourself a whole lot of moolah and got an enviable pair of custom loungers! Love them! ~ Maureen
Wow! An amazing difference. Better than new – Beautiful!
Dee
Well aren't you clever? I love how those turned out. I like the striped fabric you chose better than what they came with too. You saved yourself a ton of money by redoing these and I think they look great! Wish I could sew like you. I need to learn. I'm more of a glue girl. Ha!
This is a fabulous project! The fabric you chose works so well with the frames and the whole thing is really attractive and chic!
Great tutorial! I probably would have thrown the chairs away! Thanks to your instructions, I can see how easy it is to make new backs for them!
Your project would be perfect to share at TUTORIALS TIPS AND TIDBITS, my new weekly linky party! It is live every Wednesday evening at 8:00. Come on over and join in!
These look awesome! I'm not sure mine can come apart like that to recover. The frames need painted but currently the fabric is holding up.
Looks great! I have some old chairs I was thinking about getting rid of….WRONG! Now that I've seen this, I think otherwise! Thanks for sharing!
Oh hello I am totally envious! They are beautiful! Cme linkup to centerpiece Wednesday and share your idea with us!
Karin

Great fabric choice. They look chic.
What perfect timing. I looked at my chairs yesterday and started to figure out how to replace the blah fabric that I begun to hate. So now I will be on the hunt for replacement fabric. Thank you, Dawna
I love this! I would've thrown them out, but you brought yours back to life, and make it look so easy! I'm pinning for sure! Would love it if you shared at the Keep Calm and Link Up party! http://chase-thestar.blogspot.com/2012/08/keep-calm-and-link-up-1.html going on right now!

Laura they look amazing! You did an awesome job!
Terrific rescue! They look great.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Great work on extending the life of perfectly good bones! Terrific choice of fabric! When it comes time to repair mine, I have your wonderful example–and I will be making use of it!
We have patio chairs with the same problem and I am wondering if you could share more info on how to secure the new fabric in that track-like system along the sides……?

Hi Laura,
You did a fantastic job. I found this website where you can get many quality chair fabrics for all kind of patio chairs and the fabric can even be purchased by the yard. Custom fabric cuts available. You can get free samples. Check out patiochairsupplies.com
Not only a great idea, fantastic execution!
Totally in love! So happy you redid them – they look gorgeous!!! Stopping by from the Best DIY Project of 2012.
I just found this – so timely because one of our chaises has fabric ripping like yours. So psyched, I can't wait to try this!
Thank you for the exciting blog posting! I really enjoyed reading it, you might be a brilliant writer. When i added your site to my favorites all of which will look forward for additional updates.Congrats,Keep writing..

I have a couple of sad looking chairs just like this, now if I could just learn to sew! Love how they turned out.
Could you give more details on how you attached the fabric to the frame? It is really cute, but I don't understand how you actually attach the fabric…
How are they holding up? I'm about to do this project and the material I'm replacing is very different from outdoor canvas. It's just like the original material that was on your chairs. I'm worried the canvas won't last long before it starts to stretch and sag. My email address is whitney@force911.com. Hope to hear from you. 🙂 Thanks!
old is gold, but sometimes, old fashion do not suitable in this modern era, so day by day we have to change our style, our look and so on, so, if I talk about furniture it is a symbol of modern so here on this site we are showing you some top brand recliners
those are quite stylish comfortable and affordable to buy
How do you dissemble & reassemble chairs?
Laura, I can’t tell you how grateful I am for your beautiful recovered lounge chairs! We have four that have split and torn just exactly like yours (same chairs) the best I can tell by your pics. My husband has come so close to tossing them and buying new ones. He doesn’t believe I can fix them. In fact he has called around looking for an expert! I will fix them! My question for you is this, 2 yards of fabric? How many did you cover with that cut and was your fabric 54′ wide. I suppose I could try and figure it all out for myself like you did, but if you don’t mind sharing that info it would sure make it easier for me. I would so appreciate your response. I so enjoy your wonderful blog! Thank you! Judy in Okla City
