Before I painted my kitchen cabinets white

I have a secret….I don’t cook.  My kitchen contribution, I clean , eat and I paint. And today I wanted to share with you the kitchen before I painted my kitchen cabinets white. Not that it was the easiest or fastest project to tackle, but it certainly was the best thing I ever did for my kitchen…although my desire to cook has not changed.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the way this kitchen looked for many years. It was just too much wood and the reddish cherry color stain on our maple custom cabinets, was just not jiving with my decor and general style of my house any longer.
These builtin’s ( which originally served the family room which is now the breakfast room) …….

And the butlers pantry which is amazing for storing stuff was transformed to create more light in the kitchen. So it went from this…….

To this. Sure I gave up some storage, but I will take the natural light and windows any day.

The room that use to be my family room,  has also changed into our breakfast area since we moved the family room. We love this space and we love how much room we have for getting many people around the table to eat. Here’s the space before…..

  3. Love cooking? I can't say I love it. Love eating? Oh yeah, and especially my own cooking! Cleaning…. hmmmm, maybe not so much. Love your family room turned dining area? YES, the whole feel is warm and says sit for a while, eating or not.

  6. I love the dining area in front of the fire place! Also, I have the same deal going on. I don't cook, I clean. Okay… I may assist with cooking/prepping but I just do not like it!!

  7. I just love your kitchen, Laura! It's so warm and inviting, and I love the farmhouse feel of it. The fireplace is amazing, and I can only imagine how you all enjoy dining by it, especially during the winter!

  10. What a great home. I also have very high ceilings and have been wanting to put up white breadboard and beams to break it up a bit. Trying to convince the hubs is another story. I don't cook either but do bake
