Before I painted my kitchen cabinets white
I have a secret….I don’t cook. My kitchen contribution, I clean , eat and I paint. And today I wanted to share with you the kitchen before I painted my kitchen cabinets white. Not that it was the easiest or fastest project to tackle, but it certainly was the best thing I ever did for my kitchen…although my desire to cook has not changed.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved the way this kitchen looked for many years. It was just too much wood and the reddish cherry color stain on our maple custom cabinets, was just not jiving with my decor and general style of my house any longer.
These builtin’s ( which originally served the family room which is now the breakfast room) …….
Now look like this. Huge difference, right?
And the butlers pantry which is amazing for storing stuff was transformed to create more light in the kitchen. So it went from this…….
To this. Sure I gave up some storage, but I will take the natural light and windows any day.
Here’s some before I painted my kitchen cabinets white and the after shots of the same space.
The room that use to be my family room, has also changed into our breakfast area since we moved the family room. We love this space and we love how much room we have for getting many people around the table to eat. Here’s the space before…..
ta-dah….the space today.
You can see the entire kitchen transformation here.

Pro’s and con’s of painting your kitchen cabinets white here.
Bon Appetit!

So nice to know that I'm not the only non-cook! For your kitchen, however, I would try to do better! What a beautiful space. 🙂 Liz
i love love love this kitchen!!!!! i truly do and if you are ever looking for another cook to share the load with…i'm ready and willing and if i may say so…able : ) hugs and thanks for sharing this stunning kitchen!
I DO cook but I wish I didn't! Nothing ever tastes as good when I make it myself.. I can't figure it out 🙂
Beautiful kitchen, Laura! I love to cook, but often just don't have the time – however, if I had a kitchen like that, I'd FIND the time!!
It looks nice how you changed the rooms around. Your kitchen looks beautiful in the pictures.
Love it, I do the cooking and baking, but the cleaning? oy, that is SO not my thing. I pretty much just clean as I go on a minimal level, then leave everything to my husband:)
I still love your pantry door!

Love cooking? I can't say I love it. Love eating? Oh yeah, and especially my own cooking! Cleaning…. hmmmm, maybe not so much. Love your family room turned dining area? YES, the whole feel is warm and says sit for a while, eating or not.

You certainly are keeping up your end of the bargain. Your home is gorgeous and so clean!
I love the dining area in front of the fire place! Also, I have the same deal going on. I don't cook, I clean. Okay… I may assist with cooking/prepping but I just do not like it!!
Amazing kitchen!

I just love your kitchen, Laura! It's so warm and inviting, and I love the farmhouse feel of it. The fireplace is amazing, and I can only imagine how you all enjoy dining by it, especially during the winter!
While it's not all white, {winks} it could not be any prettier! It's a gorgeous, warm, lovely kitchen!!!
I have been searching endlessly for the exact look I want to "re-do" on my gross honey oak cabinets. Your "aged" white cabs are SHEER PERFECTION. Did you do them yourself? Tell me more PLEASE!!!!
My husband doesn't cook so if I didn't cook, we would be eating out of a box every night! Love your blog and your kitchen. You are very talented.
I've just found (via my friend KariAnne of Thistlewood Farm :)) and subscribed to your blog and am excited to review previous posts. Your home looks wonderful! As I was perusing, I came across this post, BEAUTIFUL, and wondered if you would share the color of green used in your kitchen, please.
Thanks so much!
I've been trying to find out a little more about this kind of stuff, thanks for sharing.

What a great home. I also have very high ceilings and have been wanting to put up white breadboard and beams to break it up a bit. Trying to convince the hubs is another story. I don't cook either but do bake
Awesome there, Great work, keep it up. I love returning back to this site and reading the quality content you always have on offer.
