Create an aged Flower Planter in minutes
Just like the walls in my house, planters on my patio get their fair share of color changes as well around Duke Manor Farm. Today I want to share a simple idea on how to create an aged flower planter in minutes….because sometimes that’s all we got!
I planted some beautiful wave petunias in a planter on the patio the other day but something just wasn’t right. I had recently changed up the color scheme in the pillows and cushions and the green on the flower pot just didn’t work with the look. So I did what I always do when I am looking to change it up….I painted it.
I loved the way the wave petunias cascaded off the sides, just not the color of the planter they were sitting in. I like this planter because of the details of the raised design and thought it would be perfect if it looked aged and worn.
After cleaning the planter off, I began painting the planted using some chalk paint in Old Orche color. I have never used chalk paint on a planter before and had no idea how it would turn out.
Because I wanted the green undercoat to peek through, I was careful not to apply to much brush pressure and coverage to the grapevine areas. I applied two coats of paint and let the planter dry before applying a poly coat to seal it.
The result…..beautiful and aged! Which is exactly what I was hoping for. And the flowers look prettier too!
Have fun in the garden!
So pretty! I have 3 of these same pots in brown and I was going to toss them this year because I don't like the look of them anymore. I'm going to try this with them. Thanks for sharing this great idea!
Love your planter and wave petunias! Thank you for joining the garden party link up 🙂
Lovely!!!
Looks great Laura! Nothing beats a white paint makeover.

what material is the pot do you think the same technique will work on fiberglass pots?
I have that same pot Laura. It holds a mother in laws tongue.

Pretty. Will the poly yellow over time?
Oh, I love your aged pot with the pretty petunias!
Oh my goodness what a wonderful change it made! Love it!
I love petunias! And yours look great in the planters. Paint works wonders on everything.

Laura,
I love this idea. The white really brings out the detail on the planter 🙂
