DIY Poolside towel holder that you can make today and start using tomorrow

It seems that every summer the laundry piles escalate out of control. When we got the new pool last summer, it only got worse. Towels especially. They missed the point of reusing their swim towels and not throwing them into the laundry room. So I made it perfectly clear to my kiddos….. this summer this Mama is not going to do 11 loads of laundry a day. Not happening!

Luckily my hubby stepped in to make sure the reality of doing laundry this summer is minimized by building this DIY poolside towel holder.

I am joining a whole bunch of amazing bloggers today sharing fun summer crafts or diy projects. All this links will be at the end of this post and you don’t want to miss the inspiration for your next summer project!

For a fraction of the cost of some of the towel holders you could find on line, this towel holder was so easy to construct and assemble. It probably cost us about $25.00 in materials and an hour to construct. You can also customize the size and the color.  Here’s the materials you need.

Materials

(1) Pressure treated 4x4x8 fence post for your base. I  cut mine to 6 feet

(1) 4x4x8 cut those into 20 inch pieces with each end at a 45 degree angle for your brace legs

(8) Hooks for your towels. I did 2 on each side

Drill

Saw

(8) 4 inch lagbolts to secure your legs to the base

Paint- I used outdoor paint in semi-gloss white

What you do

DIY Poolside Towel Holder

You can paint your boards before of after.

Cut your base to the desired length of your towel holder. I cut mine to 6 feet

Cut your second board into 15-20 inch pieces on a 45 degree angle. These will serve as the brace for your holder. Since mine is going to be outside, I wanted to prevent tipping over so I made my brace legs 20 inches long.

Predrill your holes on each of your braces. 2 on each brace

Use your 4 inch lagbolts to secure the braces into the main base of your holder.

Attach the hooks to the main base.

Paint if needed.

I’m not sure how much laundry I will actually being doing this summer….but I’m optimistic that this can help cut it down some. Well….. let’s hope so anyways.

  1. You are going to really love this to keep all those towels off the furniture and pool deck. We did the same thing on our patio post since it is close to the pool and it makes a huge difference.

  2. That’s a great idea…now I just need a pool to go with it! My sons have been wearing down my husband, giving them all kinds of reasons why we need a pool. I have to say, I am working on him too! Enjoy the rest of your week, Laura!
