I created a simple wintery theme on our back patio. My inspiration came from the white buffalo check pillows that I made for the breakfast area and for all the patios.  I probably went a bit overboard, but I got the fabric at a decent price and decided to dust off the sewing machine. The envelope style pattern that I use is such a cinch, especially for someone like me who doesn’t sew much. I chose a few indoor/outdoor trees and hanging baskets from Home Decorators Collection®. The items are perfect and really help to create the look that I want. This look also takes me well into the winter season without having to make many adjustments to my outdoor decor.
We are big with family traditions around here particularly for our kids. We feel like it’s a way to preserve these precious moments and memories with them for as long as we can. Each year after we go to the tree farm and pick out the family tree, we come home, talk about how we want to decorate the tree and sit around and drink cocoa. It’s something we have been doing since the kids could drink cocoa out of a sippy cup. The cozy blue plaid throws are from Walmart and were less then the cost of lunch….supersized.

In the past I have hung garland and lights on the rail but this year the lights from the Brown Winterberry trees are perfect with my rustic theme and give off just the right amount of twinkle when the sun goes down….. as we are sipping our cocoa. These trees can also be placed indoors as well. What I really like is that the cord on the lights is also brown so it blends nicely with the tree color.
Because I like to look at year round fillers of green or color on the patio, these hanging baskets completely do the job….and they light up. I placed one on some wood chargers that I made on the table and hung the other. Â AÂ few pine cones were added for extra fullness.
It has been raining this past week in Northeast Georgia which isn’t so bad when you need the rain. It’s only bad when you want to take some outdoor pictures of the lights at night. This is the best that I could do. Trust me, these trees are beautiful.
I hope you like some of my ideas from my ‘peace-ful’ patio, and that they will inspire some ideas for your own patio or porch this season. Also, if your looking to start any new traditions this year, I’m including our families favorite hot cocoa recipe. My husband has been drinking this same cocoa recipe since he was a child.
